  • Edius H264/AVC Print to File better than TMPGenc Works 5

Edius 6.03 - Is there anyone who can help me tell the difference between the native off the timeline 17Mbps H264/AVC encoding (with 512k AAC audio) and going through the Canopus HQ output through TMPGenc Mastering Works 5?

I totally understand the benefits for making DVD down-converts, but I am looking to upload some footage to Vimeo/youtube/exposure room @ 1920x1080 from footage shot at that resolution.
To my eyes I can't see a difference. I really like the timeline workflow. Does anyone know how Edius does such a thing without the mighty x264 engine? (Having read plenty about how super the output is.....) And lastly; if going the T5 route is there any point in doing a second pass with VBR? As it is for optimising small bitrates? something not necessary in a 3 minute encode...?
    Thanks for any input.

    fast start

A related question: what is the story about setting "fast start" when encoding for youtube, using either Edius H264 or TMPGenc Works 5?

If you are going to a hosting site for video, more than likely your footage is going to be converted anyway. I would just use the Edius exporter for what you need.
TMPGE or even PC3 is used to have more control over your intended output.
In this case, the faster the better. Just stick to timeline export.
