  • Edius 6 and DVD Creator

    Hello,

I am about to upgrade to Edius 6 and wanted to ask about the DVD creator functionality. In Edius 5, if one wanted to make a Blu-ray disc from the timeline the format had to be 1080i.

Is it possible in Edius 6 to make a Blu-ray from the timeline using other framerates like 720p60 or 1080p24?

Is the same encoding quality available for DVD creator as with the exporter?

How has your experience been using the DVD creator in Edius 6? To be honest I have not had good luck with authoring from previous versions of Edius as discs would sometimes not play correctly. So I have always used Encore and now Authoringworks. But I would like to have a quick turnaround Blu-ray + DVD method that is reliable.

    Thanks for your input.

Sorry, I should have titled this burn to disc. Anyway, can anybody tell me if you can burn a 720p60 or 1080p24 Blu-ray from the burn to disc function?

    Thanks

Nope... can happily burn a a 1080 24p disc here straight from the timeline and running Edius 5.51. Not sure why you think it has to be 1080i ????

Main Editing System: Sinclair ZX81 0.75Mhz chip (Overclocked to 12Ghz), Liquid Nitrogen Cooled. 48k of RAM, Compact Cassette tape drive (9600 baud), 4" B&W monitor. No keyboard - all input by thought transfer from a colander on my head. Gives me 180 layers of 4k in real time (all with 3D PIP added) and can encode and burn a 2 hour Blu Ray in just under 12 seconds. Custom editing chair that floats on magnets 2 feet above the floor. I am also able to travel in time.

O.k., I had read on the forums that burn to disc was 1080i output only. It is greyed out for a 720p60 timeline. Is the disc from a 24p timeline a 24p Blu-ray or a 1080i Blu-ray with a 24p pulldown?

So then can a 720p60 Blu-ray be made from the timeline in Edius 6?

I can't answer for Edius 6 as I don't have it but the 24p 1080 stuff is 23.98 (as per Blu Ray spec)

720p 60,50,30,25,24,23.976 cannot be burned to disc in Edius 5x or 6x.

But you can create Blu-ray files from "Print to File" "AVC\H.264" "Blu-ray" for BD compatable 720P frame rates.

            1080p 24 is also possible.

Thanks for your reply. This is quite disappointing as most of what I shoot is in 720p60. I would have thought by Edius 6 GV would have recognized all of the Blu-ray compliant formats.

I agree... it does not make sense to miss out 720p.

                  you have 2 choices

                  1. export to Canopus HQ fine

Start a new 1440x1080 60i project (don't use 1920x1080), add the above file and export to Blu-ray (60p in 60i will look good)

                  2. export to Canopus HQ fine

Start TmpgEnc Authoring Woks 4 and author away

Thanks Anton. Already doing #2. I will experiment with #1, although would prefer not to upsample and add an interlaced look.

The whole point is to not have to export a separate file for time savings on certain projects...

I do all my title animations in 50p and they look superb in 50i Blu-ray or DVD

because each frame will become a field
