  • Anyone tried 3hr export?

I'm yet to try this with edius 4.5, but with 4.1, when the video exceeded 2hrs (or maybe 2.5hrs) the audio was corrupt. This meant every wedding we export had to be in two chunks and then had to be welded together in Encore. A time waster, but still FAR better than premiere 6.5.
When I go out, I wear my EDIUS T-Shirt.

I had some audio synch issues yesterday on a 5 minute project. My audio was an MP3 and played perfect in the project. When I exported out as a lossless AVI the audio ended up being a few seconds shorter than the video. I changed the audio to a WAV and it exported perfect. I always recommend against using compressed audio (or even JPGS for that matter), so I should have known better.

This happens because of the 2GB file limit on WAV files (if that's what you're using). Have you tried using Ac3?
2hrs wont get you to 2GB but i think 2.5 to 3hrs does, maths anyone?

3hrs. should work fine now that PC3 and Edius 4.5 support it. I've done 3 hrs through work arounds before (Had to export to multiple wavs, then stitch them up).

PC3 - does that include PCexpress packed with edius 4.5? I don't have PC3 yet. And yeah, using wav's (with elementary stream mpeg 2).

Re did my maths and it's more like 2.8 hrs = 2GB.

There's other posts RE Ac3 in EDIUS 4.5, I think they said you have to use DVD Creator or something, not at the workstation to find out.

Well you could always export, then go back to Edius 4.5 and export a 256kb AC3 from the timeline. I did just that recently and it works great. I used PC2 to export an elementary stream, then went back and exported a AC3 without any problems. Everything was in sync.

Hi Matt, PC3 = ProCoder3, it's a separate buy. I think you can get it for $199 (Upgrade) if you own Edius, or else it's $499.

Edius 4.5 does AC3 as well, check out my tiny workaround above. You can export via ProCoder Express as usual, use elementary stream, and choose MP2 audio (So you won't have issues) then go back to the Edius timeline after it's exported and export an AC3 file. I highly doubt you will have issues exporting a 3 hour AC3 file, but I have never tried it myself. Give it a go and see if it works. After you get all the files done, go to your authoring application and import only the .m2v and .ac3 and you're set :)

Yes, slightly less than 3 hours for 48 KHz 16-bit stereo...

                    Okay,

Yeah I knew PC3 was Procoder 3, but my question was this; will using ProCoder Express packed with edius 4.5 solve the problem? (I'm guessing that the new prcoder express has fixed the issue)

                    Probably not....

So I have ProCoder 2, which is great. But you're saying export as normal, disregard the corrupt wav, re-export audio only from timeline as AC3 and import the two bits into Encore. UNLESS it's over 2.8 hrs (thanks Shueardm)
That sounds good enough for me. Until PC3 :)

                      Yes, you are correct :)

You should have zero sync issues if you never do anything between going from PC2 (MPEG2 Elementary) then to AC3...in between these, don't touch anything on the timeline, so nothing will shift.

You dont really need to export the audio at all, just select "don't use" under audio properties. Then go back and just use the AC3 exporter afterwards.
The 2Gb limit is only for WAV so the AC3 can be over 2.8hrs.

Good tip :) Thanks. Do you think that would reduce the export time? (not including the audio as part of the mepeg)

                            Probably, but haven't tested it.

Yeah you can choose no audio in ProCoder, just wanted to be safe and maybe compare audio later on with the AC3 to see if they are in perfect sync...
