  • Edius 4.5 & Premiere 6.5

    Hi there,

I'm loveing 4.5, but one problem. Here at the office we have been using Premiere 6.5 (horrible program) up until edius because we wanted to use our Storm cards for realtime editing and Prem Pro is not really real time with the storm cards. Hard to follow?

Well as much as I hate the ancient premiere 6.5, it is completely realtime with a storm card.

So, hooray for Edius, BUT.....some of our editors are still hung up on premiere and don't want to change over to edius, so here at the office we need our machines to run both premiere 6.5 AND edius 4.5.

    THE PROBLEM

Once Edius 4.5 is up and running, Premiere doesn't recognize any of its original video projects. It says that the "video codec" is unrecognised for every captured clip in the bin. This is a serious problem for us because we want to use both, until I can show the other editors the light and get them to gravitate towards a happier, realtime, multi formated future.

    Someone? Anyone?

    Thanks in advanced.

    Matt

The EDIUS dongle (USB key) remains in the machine, correct?

You can't run Premiere 6.5 and Edius 4.5 at the same time because it needs to access the Storm Hardware.

      Premiere 6.5 is ewwwwwwwwwwwwww :)

Force your editors to switch to Edius 4.5, they'll thank you later.

Yes, the dongle is in the machine, but no, both programs don't run at once....I mean they are both installed on the same machine but used at different times. I didn't have this problem with 4.1 ???

Yes, its the old "resisting change" thing that I have to get them over. You know the most annoying complaint I hear about edius? "Where's the rate stretch tool"

        AAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
Learn how to edit without it I say :)

Anywayz, thanks for your fast reply's...still no luck though...

That's a really weird problem. Do Canopus DV AVI files play back in Windows Media Player properly on the system after EDIUS v4.5 is installed?

Well that was the first thing i tried - and no, they do not work in media player anymore. "error with codec" I then downloaded the newest media player and still no luck. I may have to uninstall premiere and then reinstall it - maybe the order of installs is a problem. Although it wasn't for edius 4.1...

Just to check, did the "Canopus DV Driver" install run during the EDIUS v4.5 setup?

Sorry about your troubles...The last time I had Edius and Premiere 6.5 on the same system was with 3.x...I gave away my copy of Premiere 6.5 to somebody, so I can't try it for you here.

Since Windows Media Player can't play it, then for sure there is something wrong with the system. Try reinstalling the Canopus DV driver like Brandon suggested, and then install the Premiere 6.5 plugins (Don't install the Storm drivers from there, because they're older than the ones that come with Edius 4.5).

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a try. What order do I install things again? As far as DV storm goes? Premiere, then dv storm, then premiere plugin?? I can't remember....

                      Welcome Matt :)

I don't remember exactly how the Premiere 6.5 plugin worked, but just install the Canopus DV driver from the Edius 4.5 download, then run the Premiere 6.5 plugin, and during the setup (I don't remember if this was the case) if it shows Canopus DV, uncheck that box and only install the Premiere 6.5 plugins (Which let you load Canopus DV files as well as Canopus filters/transitions/project settings).

                            GREAT SUCCESS!!!!!!

All was needed was the Premiere plugin re-flash :)

Now to get onto those editors.
