  • Procoder Express and Q6600 CPU

    Hi.
I downloaded the edius 4.51c update, than i installed only the Procoder Express from the install pack, on my Edius 4.24 system.
It works great, but it is not take the advantage of my 4 core Q6600 CPU and the render is very slow.
I think Canopus announce that the version of Procoder that comes with this pack has the same technology like Procoder 3 ("Built with the same high-speed, high-quality encoding and media technology found in Grass Valley ProCoder 3").
My Task Manager show that it is taking only 25-30% of the CPU power.
There is any way to export through Procoder and take the advantage of multi-core CPU like the Q6600?
    Thank You!

Hi there. The exporter that uses multiple cores, is Speed Encoder for HDV, not ProCoder Express for EDIUS.

This exporter should already be available to you in v4.24.

Procoder 3 only utilises 2 cores in most of its exporting, only mpeg2 of certain bitrates uses grid encoding, which uses all 4 cores.

I have a q6600 and have found the 4.51 DVD Creator tool uses all 4 cores to the maxx to render to DVD format (VOB) :-) - I believe also the generic Mpeg exporter does the same..

      Hope that helps!

Outputting to QT/H.264 and WMV also utilizes more than two cores on my system.

          Support quad core?

          Hi.

("Encoding Speed Enhancements for Multi-core Systems — Grid Encoding support for MPEG-2 (Transport Stream) provides even greater encoding speed on modern multi-core and multi-CPU computer systems. This feature is automatically engaged when you choose the 'Preview DVD Target' or 'HDV Target' formats for encoding. ")
("Grid encoding for MPEG-2 (transport stream, program stream) – support for m)ultiple CPUs within one PC (including dual and quad core CPUs").

I took this quote from the Procoder Key Features!!! so i did not understand, what is correct? it support quad core or not?
Because according to the Key Features Canopus Provided it is support, and according to my tests on the system and relying on your answer it is not support!!

The problem with Speed Encoder is the one only preset, and after the encoding i tried a lot of times to burn it with my Ulead DVDWorkShop 2, and its going out of audio sync, so i can not use this encoder.

          Hope to hear from you!

The quote, as you say, is taken from ProCoder 3's page - ProCoder 3 is a separate product that you can purchase and use with EDIUS. ProCoder Express for EDIUS does not feature grid encoding technology at all.

Additionally, to use the Grid Encoding feature, you need to use the specific output target profiles within ProCoder 3, and ensure you have sufficient RAM for the file division/encoding process.

              Hi.
Thank you for your response. now i understand the idea...
I have 2GB of RAM, DDR2 800MHz, and i will consider the option of buying ProCoder 3, full version...
              Thank you again!!
