  • up grade install path for 6.03 question

Our two our latest machines are NX machines and we have purposely waited for the drivers before moving up to 6.x. We bought up grades back last fall for each machine and have installed 6.02 on a laptop just to get familiar with 6.x.

I assume for the laptop that we will be able to just install the up date since the drivers for NX are not needed.

However, for the NX machines running last version of 5.X will there be a download that will take them to 6.03 with all the updates on the plugins?

Or will it be necessary to download and install the third party plugins separately?

The latest version of 5.x has served us well and we plan to keep one work station back just in case there is a problem with pilot error our part with new projects.

Thanks so much for all that you do for us guys. We spend at least a couple of hours each day reading and learning from your posts and questions.

The forum is a tremendous asset for GV/Edius.

I have been wondering the same thing... The "What's next" thread talks a lot about the 6.03 update to Edius, and the latest post says that it should hit by this coming Friday, but the NX drivers are not likely included in that update. I am guessing that the NX drivers will be a seperate release, even posted at a seperate download location on the support page. Is there any hint/confirmation that these will be released at the same time?

Take a look back to the last releases!
No driver has come as separated download!

The drivers were a part of EDIUS 6 install routine all the time!

        Basic answer:
Before I moved to Edius 6.x I uninstalled my 4.61. Then I installed 6.x and then the updates. I believe the installation will uninstall your previous version before installing Edius 6.x. You have to start with the initial version 6.0. Then add the update. One other thing, do not use the accompanying 3rd party software that is on the disc. Go to the download sections and download the latest. Once again DO NOT INSTALL THE THIRD PARTY VERSIONS ON THE DISC. This alone will save you a lot of unwanted headaches.
If you have not moved, please watch the tutorial.

You need to read that a little closer. Steve said that most updates make it to the servers on Friday, he did not say this coming Friday specifically. If it does great, if it doesn't June lasts until the 30th.
          Go read it again.

            Hi Ronnie.

To be real safe, you should do a clean win install and then install 6 and the plugs and updates. This way, if you have any issues you will know it's nothing to do with your previous Edius install. You may also want to use Ghost or something similar to get you get back to various C: drive states, like a fresh win install and the variations from there on up. Again, this will help if you hit any software install issues, Edius or not.

If your present system is perfect with your Edius and NX cards, you may want to ghost your present C: drive, or even better just remove it and install a fresh drive for your new win/E6 install. Again, this will give you a margin for errors, if you need to quickly go backwards. If the new drivers for the NX card are anything like the Thunder drivers, they will actualy flash the board to take into account new hardware features. If this is the case, you will need to re-flash backwards if using the NX with older versions of Edius. This is as simple as just using the driver install utility to back to previous Edius versions.

If this workflow is of any interest to you, maybe give John Lewis a shout, he has a real cool boot and Ghost setup on his system.

This install/upgrade workflow is also something that other Edius users may want to look into, before they dive into the deep end with 6, it will save a lot of time and hassle.

            Hope this helps.

            Cheers.

            Dave.

I don't think that was mentioned. I think you have to read it again.

What will be the GV recommended install and update path ?
                6.0 then 6.01, 6.02 then 6.03 or better straight from 6.0 to 6.03 ?
Better ask early so that everyone follows the known rules and avoid down time.

Also, as suggested above, is it indeed still possible to reflash the NX / SP Firmware from 6.x back to version to 5.x ?
We often like to assume but this time I would like to have something more official if possible, thanks.

As Dave said a clean install is always the best....but least practical for most people. Most don't have cloning software either. So....either uninstalling the program yourself or allowing the installer for 6.0 to do it for you will be the path of least resistance.
If you are presently having issues with your setup and computer, I would definitely say do a complete new fresh install of the OS, drivers, and Edius.
Those not experiencing issues should be fine with the 6.0 installer.

Install the 6.0 version from your disc. Then install the 6.03 update. You can install the third party plugins after the first version or after the last. And no Steve did not say it would be this Friday (it won't).

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to make a mistake when the new drivers are available. We are not in a hurry. The latest version of Edius 5.x is stable and serving us well. There are no issues with any of our work stations.
So the up grade should go smoothly. We are looking forward to the fix in the Burn to Disk menu section for our BD-R projects.

Take care guys and gals and thanks again for your help
