  • Video Card Compatibility

Hi, I'm trying to figure out if my video card is really compatible. I suspect that it may be part of what is slowing down my realtime capabilities. I checked the canopus website for hardware compatibility list but is looks very limited, perhaps not a really thorough list. Im using a GeForce 6800XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 card. Anyone had any experience with is or know of a better compatiblity list for Edius?

    Thanks.

DRIVES: 4TB raid 0 array connected to AMCC 3ware SATA controller with 518mb memory. Other Drives: Seagate & WD 7200rpm 1TB each
SOFTWARE: Edius 5.5, Adobe Encore CS4, Photoshop and After Effects CS4.

What version of EDIUS are you running? If you're running anything prior to v4.5, then EDIUS doesn't use the graphics card except for Xplode for EDIUS transitions.

In v4.5 onward, if you're using D3D overlay mode, then there's the possibility there may be some kind of graphics card interaction, but EDIUS still does its processing in the system CPU.

You shouldn't have a problem with that card..you might even get limited RT with Xplode Pro 4.5 (Although it's not designed to be RT)...

How is your system "slowing down"? Can you please post your specs and what you're doing?

Well, you can run SD without problem, exept Xplode Pro and for Edius- last two can do realtime on ATI (most of them) cards only.
I like the responce of GV guys- "it's not designed to be RT"... Well, it was, probably, that's why Canopus made those dll's (in 2003). Just imagine that you buy a car and suddenly the mechanic says that it is not designed to run on highways... When I got ny Xplode Pro, all the videocards were AGP, it was working fine in RT even for nVidia cards, nobody said about "not designed"
You will have limited RT with Vitascene, but you're lucky to run Boris Blue- your card is supported.
If you are planning to edit HD, do yourself a favor- get a new powerfull machine.
            Good luck

It'd be hard to support the ever changing ATI & nVidia drivers to make it work with Xplode in RealTime....slowly, but surely the RT capabilities are going to be diminished, and I think Xplode Pro is not even going to be included in v5 and so forth. I don't know, that's just a hunch.

I just wanted to set the record straight and say that from day 1, Canopus (now GV)stated that Xplode was not designed to be RT. It just happened that it was for most people, so somehow that became the defacto standard.

Yes, but how you can explain the appearence of ver 4.51 of Xplode pro after you heared that it is not supported anymore?
Look, every clever company will try to make their customeres happy. Yes, Canopus/GV wanted to stop supporting and updating Xplode Pro, but they have also to listen for their customers, who were not happy with this idea.
There is also a problem with Vista (and not the verson 5.0 of Edius)- Xplode Pro will not wotk properly under Vista.
I tested Xplode Pro (4.51) on my computer, and I like it. Dear GV! Thank you for the nice update for this unsupported software and please dot it in future. Your customers just love this product and will do untill you will come with replacement for it...:)
                  Thanks GV!
