What IS ... the "Canopus Reference DV" option?

In the old days of 2GB file limits (10 years plus back) Canopus invented a way around it - it would split long captures into 2Gb chunks but produce a reference file. You would load the reference file and your 2GB chunks would appear as one clip. The problem was if you moved the files the reference would get messed up.

Later they produced a conversion utitlity to convert a reference file into one big AVI and to fix problems when moving but the last time I tried it (a couple of years ago) it did not work properly, and I cannot remember even seeing it on the GV support site any more.

My advice - don't tick it, it is not needed any more.

This is probably an "oldie but a goodie" (I'm sure it's been asked before, but I can't seem to find a relevant thread, maybe on the old boards?) ... but when using ProCoder and choosing a Type-2 DV AVI (which is what you want to use MOST of the time) and "Canopus DV" as the Encoder type (as opposed to MS), the "Canopus Reference DV" option is enabled.

What does this option specifically do? Does it just make it more compatible with other programs, or does it enhance performance when editing with a Storm2 perhaps? Just curious.
