Using 4.51

I encoded out a 1920/1080 mpeg2 CBR 25mbps with AC3 audio straight out from a HDV EDIUS timeline. I then made a Blu_Ray project in DVDit Pro HD and then burnt it to a normal DVD-r disk.

I then popped the DVD into the drive and Power DVD fired up and here I am watching the 25mbps Blu-Ray authored DVD on my computers normal DVD drive.

Will it play in any stand alone BR player is another thing?

I hear DVDit Pro HD will make the correct flavor of BR-Disk for the likes of PS3. Unfortunately, there is no "sure thing" yet. IMHO (oh, for the days of VHS/Betamax)

From what I hear it's unlikely for a Blu-ray project burned on a red-laser disc to work in typical Blu-ray players, but let us know if you find out otherwise. More importantly, it sounds like some Blu-ray players (especially Sony) are having problems playing BD-R and BD-RW discs for reasons probably related to copy protection issues. It's the Wild West all over again just like the early days of regular DVDs...

Yes it will. You have to download the PS3 patch from Roxio.
Encore CS3 does it out of the box. Mark posted that a friend of his who works for I think Pioneer mentioned that Sony was trying to remove the BD-r
function on set top boxes. Go figure.
DVDitprohd works but it is clunky. Just use Encore CS3. A lot less headache, at least for me.

Just made another one, very easy now once you know how.

It looks like one can get 20mins+ on a normal DVD using 1920/1080 @ CBR of 25mbps and AC3 audio tracks. I used Procoder Express for the MPEG 2 and then encoded the AC3 out.

Power DVD plays it well.
I'll make a VBR one and just see how much one can fit on a Disk.

These VMD players look interesting.

I have been making both Blu-ray and HD-DVD disks in the BDMV format using DVDit Pro HD and Ulead's Movie Factory 6 Plus, respectively, for several weeks now and burning the projects to stnandard red laser DVD's. As long as the bit rate is kept at 22K or less, these disks, comlete with motion menus's, etc. play fine on my Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray disk player (latest firmware 2.0) and the HD-DVD's play ifne in my Toshiba HD-A2 which also has the latest firmware. The disks truly look spectacular when dispalyed on my 96 in. diagonal screen using my Sony VPL-VW100 LCOS overhead projector.

Playback of BDMV on Stand alone Players disabled

I posted this elsewhere but thought this may be of interest here as well
Just be careful folks, here in Australia all new players have had the BDMV playback disabled. I have tried the Pioneer, Samsung and latest Panasonic and they will not play.
The early Pana did but not the latest with an "a" suffix.
Pioneer declare Sony pictures have forced the manufacturers to disable the BDMV play back to stop piracy! Not good for us! I dont know if just placing a file on the disk without a menu will work, ULEAD have a system which does a fast write straight from firewire to disk that supposedly works but there is no menu.
Sony playstations still play the Blueray BDMV disk BUT picture quality is not real flash.
I have held off until this gets resolved or Blueray is killed off all together by Sony!
The only feasable way I have to play back is from a DVICO TVix hard disk player but not good for distribution
