  • EDIUS doesn´t REALLY support XDCam HD!?!?!?

After a bunch of tests, I realize that EDIUS Broadcast doesn´t REALLY support XDCam HD! It only supports importing MXF files, but there´s no way to create a XDCAM HD Project or export XDCam HD MXF files, with 4 audio channels DE FACTO!

If someone knows anything about ii, please let me know!!!

    Regards,

    Gabriel Dagostini

The problem appears to be running a project with 4 channels of mastered audio and then mapping these to the created mxf files right?

          Steve,

The shortest xdcam hd clip I have right now is 25 seconds long (about 75MB), wich is too big to attach in a post.
As I can´t cut it and export with the original 4 audio channels (that´s just my problem), I´ll have too shoot this 3 second clip with my camera and download it. Hope to do this soon and reply here again, ok?

Don't go trough all that trouble I looked at the presets and see that more than 2 channel out is currently only available in DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD and intraframe.

Adding addiitonal information to avoid potential confusion and misinterpretation...

              Creating an XDCAM HD project:
There is no real "XDCAM HD project" per-se, because EDIUS processes everything as 4:2:2 uncompressed or better.
The project settings simply determine the frame rate, resolution, aspect ratio and audio settings being used.

              Export XDCAM HD:
              Yes, this is possible.

Export XDCAM HD with 4-channel audio:
This one is currently a little tricky. The XDCAM HD Exporter supports 4-channel export. However, none of the current project presets have the appropriate settings - namely 1440x1080 with 4-channel audio.

In this case, the project settings are the "bottleneck" here. You can illustrate that 4-channel export works in the SD XDCAM world by doing the following:
              1. Start an SD 720x480, 48 kHz, 4-channel project
              2. Make sure the Channel Map settings are set so audio is output via channels 3 and 4 (the default is all tracks go out 1 and 2 only)
              3. Put some clips in the timeline on tracks that will output to channels 3 and 4.
              4. Export to XDCAM IMX, being sure to select the 4-channel audio option.
              5. Close the project
              6. Start a 2-channel audio project like 720x480, 48 kHz, 2-channel
              7. Import the XDCAM IMX file saved in step 4 into the timeline on a VA track.
              8. Play the timeline. You should hear audio from channels 1 and 2.
              9. Right-click the clip in the timeline, go to Clip Properties, Audio Info tab, and select Channels 3,4. Click OK.
              10. Play the timeline again. You should hear audio from channels 3 and 4 now. This confirms that the channel 3 and 4 audio was exported to the XDCAM file.
So, it's just a matter of having a 1440x1080 project preset with 4-channel audio, similar to how the DVCPRO 1280x1080 project presets have 8-channel audio.

                Brandon,

I´ve never doubted that Edius would export 4 audio channels. But just don´t matter to me get SD with 4 channels or HD with 2 separately. What I need is HD with four audio channels (XDCam speaking).

So that´s my question: is there some REAL plan from Canopus concerning the XDCam HD (full) support ????

Of course Grass Valley wants 4-channel XDCAM HD export to work. Like I said, we need a project preset that doesn't currently exist. There may be technical issues that I'm not aware of, but we've made the engineers aware of the issue and it'll be addressed.

That's really all I can say. Much better than a FAKE plan where we really don't want it to work and implemented a useless option on purpose to tease you, right? :)
