  • E6: distorted picons in bin

It's not unusual that when scrolling through a bin with loads of scenes that it takes a little time until all picons are shown correctly (instead of seeing the sand glass picon). Although we are installing most of the systems with the same hard- and software one customer's bin looks like that:

He needs to scroll up and down various times until all picons are shown correctly. Anyone here ever seen something like that? Help welcome.

If you have your settings to create proxies and the waveform have to be created it can take a bit of time in a new project.

If you don't need the proxies it is always better to turn them off and only created them when needed.

Also make sure that the antivirus program is off. It slows down things considerably.

Hi Steve, no proxies, no antivirus software. Data comes straight from a Raid-5 so speed shouldn't be an issue, too. The clips are from a HDV Cam stored as CanopusHQ (1440x1080).

Can you have you customer check the EDIUS memory usage at the point when the picons go weird?

          Sure...tomorrow.

As far as I remember the project is quite small. Around 200 clips, four sequences, three tracks maximum. Hard cuts, hardly any filters or effects, buffer set to 128mb. OS is Win7Pro-64, 12gb ram.

If they click on the actual thumbnail in the Bin does it load the entire picture?

I'd like to bring up the topic again...because the problem is still there with E6.05 and a new graphics card (Radeon HD6870, i7-950, 12gb memory, Raid5 with write back cache enabled).

The problem is there right after starting a project and bringing clips into the bin. Edius uses about 400mb at this point.

Pat, clicking on the thumbail (or scrolling back an forth) will load the entire picture.

What motherboard? If Intel chips, make sure the latest drivers are installed from the Intel site, or motherboard site. I had a little bit of sluggishness on one of my computers, and re-installing the Intel drivers solved the problem.

Start a new project on your C drive or D drive, anywhere but on the RAID. Add some clips. You can delete after the test. Check for problems.

                Might have to re-install Edius.

Johnny, it's an X58 mainboard. Installation is up to date (we're doing this as a company for nearly a decade). We sold some identical systems but only this specific one shows that picon phenomenon.

Hopefully someone from GV jumps in...

                    it is a bug

to prevent it, make your bin large enough so there is no scrollbar

Anton since I just know that specific machine which has the problem I don't think you can call it a bug. Would be interesting to know how the picons are created.

if it happens on my machine, I call it a bug :) and EDIUS 5.51 on the same PC does not have this problem

Hmmm...nearly 300 views but only Anton has seen something like that?

There has to be an explanation?! No one from GV with a hint?

The key is to have your bin large enough to not have the scroll bar. It is more of an Edius/Windows 7 related issue as opposed to Edius/XP. Yes, GV and Japan, are aware of the picon problem.
