  • Anyway to install 4.51c on XP sp1

    Hi,

I've run into a problem with my new system, where Ulead workshop will only burn one disc, then it fails to burn any others that day, or at least until the pc has been off for a good while. Tried everything I can think of to check for failing parts, though all new. I'm of the opinion I need to reformat and do a controlled install of all apps and see if I can find the culprit.

In the mean time, I thought I'd just install the drivers for the nx and edius onto my old hdd OS, which is still sitting in the pc, just in case, so that I can get on with some work. I have 8 tapes to convert to 8 dvds today.

The old OS is XP, SP1a. Never needed to update it to SP2, as it doesn't connect to the net and it has always worked just fine. Don't fix if it ain't broke syndrome.

But the 4.51c update to edius will not install on older than SP2. Is there a work around, other than update the OS?

Otherwise I'm back to my plan which worked, which was to make loads of dvd ISO's, save to an ext hdd, then reboot into the old OS and use Ulead WS from there, which is still quite happily burning disc after disc for me.

I think you will have problems.

Don't be scared of SP2. It makes what WinXP is...really stable.

If you don't want to get online, just grab the Network Deployment version and burn it to a CD (or transfer over network, if it is networked) and run the full install.

I'm not scared of SP2, I do beta testing for MS, mainly on the media side of things, but this involves installing/removing installing next new version for all the OS's and I have a MSDN subscription, so have access to all the software.

I just didn't want to potentially remove my only fully working copy of Ulead Workshop. Not while I've got loads of work to do. :)

4.1 has installed on the machine ok, but I wanted to take advantage of the new segment enoding, so I could drop all the tapes on one timeline and then leave it to encode out my files seperately while I go out later.

You must have some type of imaging software (Ghost? True Image?) just make an image of your C drive...then install SP2. If anything goes bad, go back to the image :)

          True, I could do that.
