There have been alot of problems and negative's with the 4.51c update. I also have vented my fustration on this forum. I feel obligated to share the positive. We are in the process of shooting a movie with an HBO star for theatrical release, and will be using Edius throughout. Final bump to 35mm! We are using Canon XL-H1 HD cameras. After extensive testing we have decided to capture on location in the Canopus HQ format. Yes, the Canon has "un-compressed" SDI output. We have looked at other capture alternatives, Wafian 17,000 dollars uses SDI I/O and Cineforms codec for capture. The Canopus HQ codec kicks its butt! So, the only regret I have is that this update has given some bad publicity to Edius. Canopus / Edius, we will be loyal to the end!! Thanks for HQ quality that we are proud to be using. The word will get out!

By the way, how are you feeding the SDI stream and capturing straight to Canopus HQ? Did you guys get an Edius HD system?

That's the thing that has amazed us. We are recording straight firewire to mobile PC via software capture HQ. We have tested via SDI to a Decklink HD card using AP. It's requires a lot of rendering, a huge amount of storage space and CPU power. When compared, it's hard (near impossible) to tell the difference! The HQ workflow saves us time and storage space with complete mobility. We review our work on the fly! No conversions. HQ color space gives us what we need for colorizing, and finished potential in real time. Hard to beat for under a grand!
