  • Performance Hit

Whilst the larger play back buffer in 4.51 is helpful, I feel there has been a performance hit with the newer software. Many people have reported this, but there is no official word from GV.

My system now captures say, HDV, converting to HQ normal online quality, giving a buffer reading of 0 flashing 1's - under 4.03 I always converted to HQ fine quality and had buffer readings of 2 flashing 3.

My Raid 0 drive is defragged, with 40% used - pretty normal - I've tried all possible overlay settings.

Last night during a normal capture routine - my system crashed, completely frozen with no way out than a restart after ingesting about 25 minutes of material. This NEVER happened under 4.03. This crash left no report under Windows, so I have no idea what failed, but I have 6 hours to digitise today, so I'll keep a crash log if it fails again.

I'm considering cleaning out the C drive and doing a fresh install - but, I don't want to waste my time as I'm in the middle of 2 projects. If GV say yes, you can expect a performance hit, and yes there is a stability problem, then fine, I need to update my dual 3.4 xeons and wait for 4.51d.

    Thanks chaps

I think the crashes are related to the new overlay system

I have downloaded the latest nvidia driver and since then had no more crashes, but I lost Xplode realtime as a result, I can live with that because I don't use it often enough

It's good to hear someone is running without crashes - I also have latest graphics drivers, are you using 4.51 or c? I'm stuck with the c version.

Well, I'll see how the day goes today - this soft is looking so much better, I'd love it if these little problems were sorted.

Sun up, time to squeeze some oranges - remember to get some sleep Anton!

there is a way for me to crash it and that is by using several soundsoap on timeline and then export to HQ codec

I avoid this by exporting the soundsoap clips as wav only and then replacing the existing wav and deleting the soundsoap, then it exports fine to HQ

mmm, I tend to use SoundSoap outside of Edius - it really clogs it up and all that offset stuff!

Also I can't get a crash in anyway with the titlers which everyone else seems to get - I just get these freeze ups for no apparent reason.

I haven't run into crashing issues yet... Just performance based issues. But, EDIUS 4.51 and 4.51c have been solid for me in terms of NOT crashing.

Lucky guy - I've just run into a series of unexplained crashes - it used to be very rare, although not impossible to break Edius, but now it happens a few times a day - just like ye olde premiere days - sigh!

But I suspect Anton is right - overlay/graphics card issues.
