I know that you are supposed to uninstall ver5.x when installing ver6, but what about ver4x?

The same applies to that. If you do not manually uninstall EDIUS will do it for you -
I can speak from experience with E4.61.
Edius 6.x removed Edius 4.61 upon install.
It did leave a couple of folders that were confusing
the install of Vistitle. That was corrected
a long time ago. It is up to you whether to
do it manually or not. I say just let the installer
