  • DVD Creator Error

For the first time, I have been trying to explore the new DVD Creator feature.

I have an SD 4x3 D1 project and the current sequence is a single, rendered HQ clip of one of the other edit sequences.

I click on the export button and select DVD Creator. The app looks like it is trying to start up but then I get this error:

    D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY

I click OK and the app never opens. This is on a system with two display cards - a QuadroFX3400 and a QuadroFX330... so there's plenty of video memory.

    Any idea what's wrong here?

Is anyone else with multiple display cards having this problem?

    Thanks!
    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

    Mike,

I tried with a D1 project and got "failed to Render" switching to DV made it work, I guess it doesn't see a D1 project as compliant - try it anyway it may help.

      Paul,

Thanks for that... I thought D1 might be automatically converted by the app.

Unfortunately, I just tried switching the project settings to a 720x480 setting but I still get the same error when DVD Creator tries to start. Perhaps no one tested it in a multi display card environment?

      Thanks anyway!
      Sincerely,

I know it sounds daft, but can you temporarily dissable one card?? to see if it fixes it?

and did you check where it's making its tempory files - and did you try to make files only - no disc?

Is it a consistent crash? Or random?

Paul, thanks I was about to try that and as I suspected, it is because of the 2 display cards. When I disabled the QuadroFX 330, the DVD Creator app starts properly. So now I have to reboot between 2 hardware profiles in order to use DVD Creator.

Kenneally, it's not a crash... just an error message when DVD Creator tries to start. Perhaps this can be looked into in the future... making it work with 2 display card systems.

            Thanks!

What I was leading to, was that I am wondering if you simply have to change the overlay back to DirectDraw..

                Kenneally,

Sorry... didn't get that. I will do a test.

                Thanks!

                  Kenneally,

OK... it already was set to 'DirectDraw'. I switched it to 'Direct3D9'... still the same result of the error message on DVD Creator trying to start. So it definitely does not work for me with 2 display cards enabled.

As an aside... is the Direct3D9 setting a better/faster setting to use?

                  Thanks!
                  Sincerely,

I'm not sure of the speed benefits if any. I don't know if it's actually using the GPU of the graphics card, or just software-based Direct3D calls instead of DirectDraw.

It's main purpose in life is to provide compatibility with Windows Vista (for EDIUS Neo only, which is a child product of the EDIUS 4.5 engine).

The benefit for mine, is the smooth, interlaced appearance of video on a non-interlaced computer monitor.

                      Kenneally,

Ahhhh... OK. I'll leave it set for the time being to Direct3D9 although most of my video viewing is done on the video ouputs and the preview window is just a postage stamp.

I'll make a post in the bugs forum for the DVD Creator issue.

                      Thanks!
                      Sincerely,
