  • Working in 8 channel mode

There is no stereo downmix available for audio monitoring only a selection of two channels 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8 sio you cannot check your stereo down mix easily without having to go into the channel map and reconfigure the mapping temporarily to do this.

Also the same applies to the audio meters they can't be directed to show the downmix.

Correct. That's why I prefer to use Sound Forge to do my audio work.

      Turn off 8 channel capture?

      Hello all-

I have a somewhat odd request. Does anyone know how to turn off 8 channel capture? I'm working with an HDBX-1000 and Edius v5.5.

I'm trying to capture uncompressed YUY2 in AVI file and ideally I'de like to have only 2 channels of audio in just a regular WAVE FORMAT PCM structure (not WAVE FORMAT EXTENSIBLE).

Does anyone know to do this? Or does anyone know if v6 with the same hardware (HDBX-1000) could do this? Thanks in advance-

      Courtney

Capturing only 2 channels in uncompressed AVI

Hi Anton- Actually, the HDBX can't capture HDMI. We've tried SDI and Composite (not Component).

However, it's the gui that seems to be lacking a place to specify the number of channels you want to capture. There is nowhere in the software to tell Edius that you only want 2 channels. So even if I go in SDI and my original only has 2 channels of audio, Edius always creates a file with 8 channels. Also, even if I go in Composite with only 2 XLR cables Edius creates a file with 8 channels.

Edius version (capturing only 2 channels)

              5.51

I know. It seems like there should be a way to do it, but we've tried a lot of different approaches.

Are you sure you're checking the AVI settings? And specifically those for capture? It seems like some of the other capture formats allow you to specify number of channels but AVI doesn't.

Also, the AVI project setting gui has a place to specify 'Channel mapping' but even when you do that it doesn't limit the capture to 2 channels. When you actually go ahead and capture a file, it gives you something with 8 channels.

I will fire it up tomorrow and see

whenever I used 5.51, I captured to Canopus Lossless and it captured 2 channel stereo

Lossless is smaller than uncompressed and the same quality, will test tomorrow, off to bed at 1:30am

Note: is your project setting Stereo 2 channel?

Ok, thanks. I'll try the Canopus Lossless and see what happens. Ultimately, we have to be able to use Uncompressed but it's worth it to know what the other settings say.

I'll also double-check our project settings for 2-channel stereo.
