  • 24p frame editing

I just made my first full event in 24p with my JVC HD110s. Both camera lost sinc in longer captured file. In short files I'm OK, but anything longer than 10 mins. the audio is off by 2-3 sec.I used Canopus's MPEG Capture Utility, just like usually and I never had any problem with capturing 30p frame footages. I try capture a anopus HQ file, just like usual.
I need to finish this big project ASAP but now I didn't even start it.
If I capture with CapDVHS, no sinc lose, everything OK, but some reason my computer have a problem with that file in Edius. (Core 2 Quad 6600)
    I use Edius 4
Edius have a known problem editing 24p footage recorded by JVC HD110???

    Help!!!!

    Anybody?

The problem is Mpeg Capture Utility. This software is NOT ready to capture 24p frame footage? What can I do?
I tried capture with CapDVHS, no sink lose, but I can't edit with Core 2 Quad. (??????????) I tried in three different computer, all of them are Core 2 Quad
I tried to convert to Canopus HQ in Procoder 2, but it's take forever. I have 6 hrs of footage to convert.
Any other solution, or I need turn back to Premiere CS3, or Liquid.
I need work on this project ASAP.

    Please somebody help!!!
    Thanks: Laszlo

Is there any reason in particular why you aren't capturing within EDIUS itself? There are 24fps HDV input settings that you can use - no need for MPEGcapture.

Does Edius 4.51c support on-the-fly 24p with Pulldown editing?

Before the upgrade with Edius 4.24, the only way I could properly edit 24p w/pulldown was to first remove the pulldown by converting the files to True 24p using Procoder 3's Inverse Telecine Filter.

I'm not sure if any changes were made to the 24p handling from 4.24 to 4.51c.

I'm merely suggesting a direct, within-EDIUS attempt at capturing the footage to get Laszlo on track! :)

What?? I can capture in Edius??? I never know it and I use Edius since E3 came out.
Please let me know how, and I will try this afternoon.

Go to Capture>Input Settings>Generic HDV Input and then set it to what you're caturing.

Then capture with the Generic HDV - Input option. You might need to have a fairly recent version of v4 installed, like 4.24 or 4.51c to see all the options, but they're certainly there.

                Thanks Kenneally!

I will try in the next hour or so.
How much is the 4.5 upgrade?
Also my colleague have a supplied E3.0 with the NX card. He can get it as a upgrade too?
                Please let me know.

                Thanks: Laszlo

3.x -> 4.00 = $199 in the US, not sure on Canadian pricing.

                  4.xx -> 4.51 = FREE!

I'd suggest you hold off going to 4.51 until your urgent deadline is behind you.

Yes, I will wait till I'm done.
Now, I edit my projects in two different places, so I need install Edius to two computer. It's possible to take a dongle with me always or I need purchases two full version. If I need to purchase, have a price brake for this kine of reason? I think I'm not alone.

EDIUS licensing is one instance per-license, per-user, managed by the dongle itself.

This means you can install EDIUS on multiple machines, but you can only use as many seats of EDIUS simultaneously as you have EDIUS licenses (dongles) for.

For example, if you have 1 license of EDIUS and 3 PCs, you can install EDIUS on all of them. But EDIUS can be running only on 1 PC at any given time. If you had 2 licenses, then you can run EDIUS on 2 PCs simultaneously, but not on a third.

With the Batch Exporter, it reduces the need of having multiple EDIUS license for a single editor, as you can batch-render your stuff at the end of the day (or when you go to take a shower, etc) instead of needing a second EDIUS license to do the "render on one, edit on the other" musical editing chairs.

                        Thanks Brandon!

                        So if I understand right,
1, I can take a dongle with me, and plug in to the working computer.
2, When I exporting let say to mpeg2 with Procoder Express, I can do that without dongle, so I can plug the dongle to the second computer and editing my other project.

Am I right? (I hope I'm not pane in the b...)

                        Please let me know.

                          Hi Laszlo,

                          1. Yes, that's fine.
                          2. If you are exporting from the EDIUS timeline, then technically EDIUS is still running and it will still need the dongle and be considered "using" EDIUS... It gets fuzzier if you are using PCE for EDIUS in standalone mode.

And No, you are not a pain in the b...

                            Thanks Brandon!

So basically I need two dongle if I want to work on the timeline in two computer at the same time either editing or exporting.
Grass Valley give a break if I want to purchases two licenses? (dongle)

                              OK Kenneally, Brandon.

I'm home and I captured over 10 mins. in Edius with "720p 23.96 over 29.96" and no sinc loss. Great!
But, the footage is heavily strobee. I know 24 frame is different, I made a few 24 frame projects before, but those was video only wasn't audio there. So I know how look 24p footage.
I use E4.01. May that is the problem, or it's a well known problem with Edius? As of turn out Mpeg Capture Utility is useless for 24 frame, so I'm in kine of truble now.
Please help me here. More than likely I need capture with CapDVHS and convert it with Procoder. This way the footages are beautiful, but take forever.
Anyway, please let me know what is a problem here.
