The only assured way to really, i mean REALLY improve Edius loading times (and everything else) is to run it from hi-performance ssds in RAID0 with a decent/good raid controller (at least ICH9R). You’ll be surprised how fast it loads on a 6x INTEL SSD X25-E 64GB RAID0 setup controlled by ICH10R (or you could get away with 6x INTEL SSD X25-M 160GB they are cheaper almost as fast but will wear out MUCH sooner). It will be lightning fast if Edius and all the needed media are on the Raid. It’s also a good idea to disable the swap file if you have enough RAM to do that (6-8GB).
    Best regards,
    António Barquinha

I upgraded from v5.51 to 6.01 and then 6.02. Both 6 versions are definitely noticably slower than v5.51. In all cases my Kaspersky anti virus was on as my PC is multi-purpose and need internet connection.

That may be the answer in some cases, but there is definitely something else going on. I completely uninstalled my antivirus and even then my newly created project under 6.01 took ~90 seconds to open in 6.02. Now, with antivirus re-installed and no exclusions specified, it seems to have sped up to ~60 seconds somehow.

I also created a simple new project under 6.02 with the same project settings and that opens up fine. So for me its just the 6.01 > 6.02 upgrade. Hard to trouble shoot though since I only created that one project while 6.01 was installed.

For me the anti-virus does the trick. Because of the caching with Windows 7 it will always be faster to start the program the second time you start it. The only way you can really test this problem is change something, reboot, wait for windows to settle down, then start EDIUS. Then change something else and reboot again.

re: the anti virus you have to exclude the file in the right place. I am using Microsoft secutity essentials and I have to exlude it from the list of processes not from the list of excluded file types to get a result.

I am seeing some slow startups for mine (at least the first time after a boot). Its not as bad as described here but worse then it was in 6.01. I am using the Quick Time Alternative (I want minimal Apple bloatware on my PC). I have 7.6.9 installed.

No change here reverted back 50 seconds before and after uninstalling QT first run was 20 seconds but rebooted and back to 50secs. Dont really know if 50secods on i7 950 is slow ?

Well, I tried all of the above. Excluding Edius from Antivirus program. No change. Uninstalled Antivirus completely - still takes ~90 seconds to open.

The I tried to open 2 old project files I still had from a few years ago. One project is very large - Bam! Both opened up in under 5 seconds! Back to my newer little project - 90 seconds. That same project opened in far less time under 6.01. So for some reason 6.02 has a real problem with it and I have no idea why.

You only tell it to exclude the edius.exe file nothing else, and this may be dependent on what antivirus you are using. I've tried this on multiple systems using Win 7 Pro and it does it on all of them. It only occurs the first time you open EDIUS after booting up as after that it's stored in the windows cache so next time you open Edius it opens a lot quicker.
In theory your system should have already scanned the plugins and codecs when they were installed so those shouldn't cause an issue and as the Antivirus isn't turned off for anything else when you connect a memory stick etc it should still scan those files

If you set up an exclusion, the files will NEVER be scanned. I'm not saying that you shouldn't set up an exclusion, but I would not do that -- any system that's connected to a network (Internet or LAN) or has access to removeable media should run some form of AV, and setting up exclusions punches holes into your armor. The real danger would come from plugins and codecs loaded by Edius, they'd be hosted within the Edius process and probably go unchecked. There have been malware codecs, so this isn't purely theoretical.

I don't have an AV exclusion set up for anything on my system and use the latest version of QuickTime Pro, and Edius loads within seconds, both the recent project selection dialog and the projects themselves.

Well as the thread is about EDIUS start up those things won't make any difference.

For me there is no change. In my experience Anton's Windows 7 64bit Performance Improvement Tips for Edius users are very important and efficient to obtain a good performance.

Windows 7 SP1, just released, is supposed to speed up floating point calculations in recent CPUs.

I don't know if this helps Edius at all?

I have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Edius 6.02 and last version QT. They run very fast. I use ESET Smart Security who is very soft and efficient. Anton explains very well his Windows 7 64bit Performance Improvement Tips for Edius users. I have my Windows 7 according that:
