Videoout on NX/Edius 4.51 with CS3

This plugin works with DVStorm boards as well! The original plugins from TGV do not support the DVStorm boards...

The workaround will only work if you already had the previous versions of the Adobe software. If you bought the full version of CS3, you'd be in the cold because you can't extract the plugins off the disc.

And I continue to be amazed at how slow GV is with plugins.

This work around was posted a long time ago. Maybe this should be a sticky or something so that others can share the knowledge.

You´re right ´bout the plugins - they are only certifed for CS2, not CS3. I couldn´t keep my hands in my pockets, soooo - I installed AE7 in a new directory, and copied the Canopus-folder from the plugin-directory to the CS3 plugindirectory - and well, it actually worked and CS3 doesn´t seem to mind...

Hey Erik, the new plugins don't seem to support CS3...?

The way it works is simple. The Adobe applications (PPro, AE) have FireWire out capability. If you have lets say a small camcorder handy (A cheap one will do) or a tape deck like a DSR11, you can run a firewire cable from your laptop to your camera, then from the camera run an analog cable out to a monitor. Canopus sells adapters just for that...but if you already have a camera or a small deck, you don't need to spend any extra money.

As far as the NX, it can act as an OHCI device, and the component output is always active when you use it. So you can enable ADVC and run After Effects and enable FireWire out...now your video will be displayed through the NX as if it were a camera and a pass through device.

I'm doing my AE work this way for now (I need to be careful about color) under OSX until I buy a card that supports it.

Well now the 1.2 plugins came out, but still - I haven´t tried what you suggest, Dave, but it sounds very interesting - You see, this is a trick I can use in other applications I run!!!!!

How would that work in realilty(I´m away from my workstation now - on my laptop)... Maybe you tried it, and can give me a step-by-.step description?

In the meantime, you can use FireWire and NX's AVDC (or was it ADCV?) conversion from FireWire out of AE to Component out (Yes I know 411 to 422 color space is not the greatest, but a temporary solution).

If you've updated to v4.51c, you're carrying a new NX driver onboard - this means the plug-ins for output with other apps will not work (properly if not at all).

An updated video output plug-in pack is coming, and will be put up in the Downloads section in the next few weeks.

I experienced that the videoout plugins cannot find the NX-hardware, after updating to 4.51c. Am I the only one here?

I know this is a hot topic, and I must absolutely second the posts reg. the SDK being released, so that plugins can be written for other applications.

Matrox´s Parhelia videocard, has e.g. a dedicated TV-out, where all directx-based video is sent to regardless of which application is playing back the video(After Effects neede a plugin). But I like the idea - to be able to use the canopus-card no matter which application is being used. That would in deed be useful - We do a lot of voiceover-post for DVD´s and such - this would also make the videopreview for the speaker possible thru the NX..

I hope the developers are on this, and something is to be released very soon.
