I am not able to play MotionJPEG files on the Edius timeline or preview monitor separately above the timeline. The file stops after a few frames and an error message appears, “Playback Stopped.”
My project settings are Full HD, 1920 x 1080, as are the source files. They are transferred via a rack-mount SATA drive from a different workstation. On that workstation, the files were captured with a BlackMagic Intensity Pro card, and processed with CineCap Velocity HD.
These are frame-by-frame 8 and 16mm movie film captures, in 1920 x 1080, with the same codec (MJPEG). They are captured via BlackMagic Intensity Pro component and Motion JPEG, and rendered by CineCap Velocity HD into what Edius Properties indicates is: DirectShow Video, 1920x1080, progressive, 29.97. But ProCoder identifies the file codec as “DecLink MJPEG Compressor.”
The files play just fine in the preview window of ProCoder 2 within the same editing station (specs below).
If I render the files on the Edius timeline, they play just fine, but any changes, cuts, etc., generate the same playback problem and require a re-render, which would take forever to edit even a 3 minute film reel.
I have transcoded the source MJPEG files into Mastering MPEG-2 HD and also Canopus HQ using ProCoder, and, of course, those files have no timeline issues.
I also tried exporting the MJPEG from the timeline using the Infinity MJPEG exporter, which generated the same “Playback Stopped” error upon timeline playback.
It doesn’t matter whether I change the Project Settings from “59.94i” to “29.97p over 59.94i.” The “Playback Stopped” problem still occurs.
1) Is there some other project setting that can resolve the problem? Or, is it the file produced by CineCap?
I burn Blu-ray directly from the timeline. If I MUST re-encode before editing:
2) Does the ProCoder Mastering MPEG-2 HD “pass-through” on the burn-to-disc encoding process, or is it then re-encoded anyway?
3) Would it be better to edit in CanopusHQ, and then burn-to-disc from the timeline?
