Motion graphics from 2D still with Edius

Been favorably impressed with the footage presented by XNCreative labeled Desert Motion at Vimeo:

Obviously using Final Cut Pro

We have been quite succesful in presenting 2d stills in video using Imaginate for some years now and were wondering if it is possible to do this in Edius 6 without recurring to AE (traveling mat perhaps?)
any ideas??

This can be done quite easily in E6 using the Layouter and Chromakey to allow a background video / Still to replace the sky
Layouter is now fully keyframable and so much faster than FCP
The cut out can be done with the new "Mask" filter

See this video on the Flinders ranges in South Australia, one of the problems filming here is the un imaginative clear blue sky so
I have a library of stills of clouds which were used to replace the sky as well as animate where necessary
The Chrominance filter was also used to enhance the blue haze of distance in a lot of the shots

just looked at you Vimeo posting and it is excellent work, but it is not the same. As far as I could tell those fellows ISOLATED various elements in each photograph to create a 3D imaginery in video, quite good indeed.
Suggest that you take a look again at their tutorial (using FCP)

I've done things like this with Edius.
I think the term "Incredible" is a little over the top for the cartoon-y look of the final video.

That is right, Edius can't do this by itself, it will need photoshop to paint over or clone over the part that will move.

The poster's technique also required Photoshop.
Seems nothing really "special" was done on the NLE end, just providing the layering and motion.

Correct and if you don't have PS you can do it all in EDIUS with our mask tool.
That's whats deeter2 is not seeing in Barry's post.

With the Mask tool you can isolate anything in an image. (because you can do free shapes)

You also can create the alpha prep with the alpha matte in the bin. :) (but it is not really needed)

Tip:
If you are going to use the layouter for motion which in this case you would drag the layouter after the mask.

EDIUS 6 has nice stuff maybe you should start using it on a system with OHCI to get up to speed on the cool stuff. :)

Tried that for a while but can't, once your hooked on timelime view on external TV monitor you can't do without, even the full screen overlay is no substitute.
