  • Export HD Video for iPad

I've found several other threads on this topic but am still struggling to provide a file that works for a bride to use on her iPad. I don't own one so can't experiment. From the 1280x720 50p project I used 5.5's exporter to create an H.264 file which one of the threads said works on iPad. The bride says that iTunes won't recognise the .ts file so can't upload it.

Elsewhere I see that iPad uses MPEG4 but I can't find a way to create one in 5.5 or Procoder 3. Do I need to find a converter? Any other ideas welcome please.

The best thing is look at the the spec of the ipad to know what it supports:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

    When exporting choose:
    1 enable conversion
2 use the quick time exporter
    3 click export
4 on the next page where you give a name there is another setting buttton click it this opens the quicktime settings
5 choose codec H.264, MPEG-4 (look at the supported codecs for the IPad choose one)
6 adjust size and frame rate
    7 export
    8 done

I've not exported specifically for the iPad, but I've successfully output video from both Edius 5/6 and Procoder 3 for the iPhone. The iPad should play those files as well as content intended for the AppleTV box.

Try the presets in this sticky.

Thank you GV. I had exported H.264/AVC from the preset list which gave me the wrong format for iPad. I didn't think to look under Quicktime which gives me MPEG-4 which I'm confident is going to work.

You can use H.264 out of quicktime as long as you stick to what the Ipad can play
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz,

            ipad 2 settings?

            Hey friends!!!

has anyone exported their media onto the ipad 2 yet successfully?

Explore the world of iPad. Featuring the all-new iPad and iPad Pro, and the powerful iPad Air and iPad mini.

it says up to 1080p 30fps. I print to file mov. 1080p at 24p and my ipad 2 did not like that. Ill try H.264 tonight.

But if anyone knows the proper settings for exporting in the best quality that would be great. The tutorials from "On Screen Training" are of great quality.

            is 24P the problem?

            Thanks,
            Chris

Yes, I've successfully created H.264 files for the iPad 2 using Edius 6 and the presets mentioned above. Did you use your own settings or did you use a preset?

i did print to file , quicktime mov. with no changes in resolution or framerate. im using 24p hdv thats in a 24p over 59i timeline. Do i have to change it to 30frames or is 24p supported?

                thanks,
