  • Key Frames (and sorts)

I am relatively new to Edius having previously been a user of Avid Liquid. Thus, I am still trying to get used to it. So far, I like it.

    Key Frames:
Am I right in saying that you can't key frame all effects? For instance, say I wanted to apply blur, can that be keyframed? I can't find an obvious way of doing it.

    Transparency
I used to use this a lot in AL. Normally, I would use it when stacking clips and then, over time, change the transparency of, say, the top clip revealing the lower clip. Where do I find transparency controls? Also, can they be keyframed?

thanks for any help you may be able to offer

Some effects cannot be keyframed directly, but you can do it somewhat by using Blend Filters. Opacity is controlled in the Keyer Track. See screenshot.

Some effects have parameter-based keyframes (3D PiP or Layout, Color Correction filters) - the keyframes control the settings of the effect.

Some effects have progress-based keyframes (native transitions) - the keyframes control the progress of the effect, in other words, you could make the effect go forward - then reverse, then back forward.

A few have both (2D PIP) types.

And others do not have keyframes (audio filters, for example).

thank you both of you for taking the time to reply to my questions.

I'm going to have a look at the detail in due course. I think I understand what you are saying.

that mixer is very clever! works perfectly. I would never have found that! Is it in the manual? I've printed the manual (all 700+ pages) and slowly going through it.

To add nodes I see you simply mouse click. Is there a way of adding nodes on the opacity line by keyboard at the cursor point?

            Thanks. Great tip.

                  Another Key Frame Question

I notice, for instance, in the four page peel transition that key frames are available; great.

Is there any way of copying a key frame and pasting it later against time? In AL5 there were the normal buttons for +/- key frame but also copy/paste. These buttons don't appear in E5 (at least not on that four page peel). Do I understand that this is not available (even by keyboard shortcut)?

                      In Edius 5.xx Settings>Application Settings>Customize>Button>Timeline
                      In Edius 6.xx Settings>User Settings>User Interface>Button
The box on the left shows what can be added by dragging the icon to the right hand box (which shows what is displayed)
