  • EDIUS 6 - burn to disk features

I read that EDIUS 6 now lets you add video as your menu background.
OK, so it took me 10 minutes to find out how to add it. No simple "add video" in menu settings. You need to highlight "Back" in the menu item and click settings. Then in the "Picture" tab (there should be a video tab), I found a button (by reading the tooltip) called "Select the sequence to output". So I understand that you can't just use a video from your HDD but it has to be a sequence. So I choose my menu sequence.

Now will it play correctly? Will it play with audio? Does the "Set the video menu duration" need to be modified to match my menu sequence? There is no simulation or preview button, so if you don't know the answers, I might have to waste several disks in trial and error... why isn't there a simulation option? (Anton had answered this somewhere about PowerDVD but I don't understand how PowerDVD comes into play here.

if you are making a DVD, menu audio will not work at this stage (unless your movie is encoded with wav audio instead of ac3)

if you are making a Blu-ray, don't use menu at all because the routing will be broken and you won't be able to navigate the disk correctly in BD player

Ok, thanks for the tip. Do you have any idea if the "burn to disk" feature will get any more advanced then it is now? I've been using Encore for years and it would be easier if I can just finish my project within EDIUS, including burning features that include basic things like previewing before burning and more menu options.

For the near future (except for bug fixes) what you see is what you will get. It will not compete with Encore for added features

I am not sure what is planned for the future

currently it is important to get a bugfix happening so that users can make DVD or Blu-ray

you will always get more advanced options in a dedicated authoring software

I use DVD Lab Pro for DVD, it can't be beaten by anything affordable on the planet

for Blu-ray, I use DVDit Pro HD 6.4, a dead and unsupported product but with many more features than Edius Disk burner

I have not tried Encore, but I also hear complaints from Encore users

I don't use many complex features in my menus so Encore is fine for me. I figured out that CS3 is the least buggy version so I have not upgraded my Encore since. My whole Adobe package is CS5 except for Encore.

              Hi
It is a pity that the DVD & BD Disc burning does not work in Edius 6 as it would be nice to do a complete project in Edius Hope this is fixed soon
Re wasting BD discs why don't you use BD re-writeable to test a project then if OK just copy to a final BD Disc
I use the free version of Moviefactory that came with Edius 5 this is a good and easy programme to use and gives full motion menus ( using your own video ) for both DVD & BD also you can prevue the result before you burn
