go to customize, button, timeline
add the normalize clip tool (do not add the normalize track tool, you won't need it)
now you need to know what level you wish to achieve, in my case, I like -6db on VU meter
so, the green turns yellow at the -6db mark
now select a clip that you have set to mono1 or mono2 and then click the normalize tool and roll the mouse so the value says -6db
click ok and test
if slightly off, click the tool again and roll the mouse to a different value
you can say goodbye to rubberbanding in most cases
always do one clip at a time, or you will create an uneven mess

Ugh, is this so? I often use mono 1 or 2, the resulting waveform always appears to have plenty of volume. Though I must admit I find maintaining a consistent level of audio throughout a long edit difficult to judge. I must also admit being ignorant to normalisation. What should I be doing?

when you select -20 and use normalize, the clip will be normalized to -20 unless you manually increase it in the normalize tool
-12 will give you louder results after normalize
In Edius6 I would use -6 because I often normalize monaural1, my radio Mic channel and -6db produces the correct level since Edius6 no longer supports the edius3 compatible panning mode
in Edius5 I use -12 with Edius3 compatible panning mode
what does Edius3 compatible panning mode mean:
when you set a stereo channel to mono1 or mono2, the audio level is cut in half, this is too low

those referenence levels have no effect on volume - they represent the lowest level the meter will show up on the display. so altering them will make no difference to the output

Audio question
I am running Edius 6 and my audio is consistently low.
In my project settings do I want to have my Audio reference level set at -12db or -20db. I have it set now at -12db.
I was under the impression that having it set a -20db would allow the audio to be even lower. Is that correct?Tags: None
