  • Where are linear keyframes in YUV curves?

Hi, I was so-o-o excited to read in the help for Edius 4.51 that right clicking on the curves filter timeline one can select from hold, linear or bezier.

When I do this only "Hold" is available, the others are grayed out, do others find this, or am I doing something wrong?

I was REALLY looking forward to having LINEAR (WOW!) keyframes in this important filter.

    Thanks,
    Claire

Current spec of the YUV filter is that it supports Hold keyframing only. Other keyframe types on on the wish list.

Hmm...just to funny that i was about to ask...

I havent been doing much CC in Edius yet, but this is a big part of my fututre work in Edius, as it is a lot of workaround to go to AE or other applications with P2 footage..!

So do i understand right that the function "hold" tells me that the keyframing can only "jump" from keyframe 2 keyframe?!
Thats at least what happens, so i dont see any real "Keyframing" here for this effect...when i use a different colour-effect(in german language here right now..what a pitty..!its the "colour-wheel" id assume..!?) it works perfect in keyframing this..it should be desinitly possible to do that with the YUV too, thats veeery important, not only to me i guess!

(i know that Edius is an NLE, but working great with all my footage-native- i dont like to go to any different programm to do any effects and CC...i know that Edius wount function like AE or Combustion one day, but if it would lead to the FCP-direction, id be very happy...!)

p.s. going through the forum, i found some other threads, and i voted for the importance of that keyframing!-So Edius 5 is coming out tomorrow with all that features!!??!

Correct, "hold" is a cut or immediate jump to the next value, there is no interpolation between the previous and next value.

Outch....that doesnt really help much...hope that this will be changed in a soon upcoming update...those interpolated keyframes are working so lovely..!

            Thanks for the clarification Brandon..!

This is a BIG ISSUE for me.. have resorted to using a duplicate track with keyframed opacity in some areas to get some sort of USABLE keyframing in YUV curves AND it doesn't help now that in 5.1c the live update from YUV curves to the waveform meter is suddenly broken.

I'm seriously thinking of going back to Edius 4.10 to get this working as well as the once fine titlers.

Seems the upgrade to 5.1c personally did me no little or no good at all, just resulted in a crippled workflow.

              Sorry to be so negative.

Claire, I realise this is not the same, but does the bezier keyframeing available in the white balance filter not go some way to help with your problems?

The "Live" output to the Waveform/Vector works also with this in 4.51c

Just a thought, I found it pretty handy and smooth.

Good suggestion Paul, this is an option that remains in working order. Not so handy for me where YUV curves was so simple but yes, I tried it and I see that moving the black contrast slider is like moving the bottom of the "Y" curve, the white contrast slider is like moving the top of the "Y" curve and the grey constrast slider is like dragging the centre point I usually make in "Y" curve.

Not as powerful by any means and I haven't yet tried the colour adjustments that I found so powerful in curves, I was using YUV curves as a substitute for the missing GAMMA levels I am used to in After Effects but now in Edius 4.51c with broken realtime metering of levels it's just too laborious to use.

So yes, thanks Paul, I will persevere somewhat with the WB filter, at least the waveform meter works properly with it.

BTW, it's so cold and wet in N.England today I have the central heating on.

Yeah I wish they take this serious, I asked about keyframes in YUV over 6 months ago but still all they give you is a hold, quite useless for me, you could just cut the clip and apply different value, it would be the same as the hold keyframe, btw it is 100 degree here in Texas, I'm getting ready to cook some BBQ and jump in the pool.

Hi Claire, glad this may help a little - not nearly so easy as curves but maybe a bit of a stop gap at least. Yikes, central heating? it must be cold, or maybe just wet. Sorry, its 30c here, and I don't have any heating in the house anyway! except the Supermicro of course, which does just fine in the winter!

I've just read this old thread from 2007 and am now on Edius 6 and YUV curves still jump from each key frame.

it's a unique feature that no other NLE can boast.

I'm sure it is but it would nice if you could use keyframes as in other effects that are linear in other words don't suddenly change when it comes to a new key.

As a work around, cut that clip in half and do a dissolve with extend clip checked and it will give you a smooth transitions to other settings.
