I want to examine them and then think about modifying them (primarily changing brightness, etc). And I agree that the Export button needs improvement. Before it was a very visable, noticeable item (especially given the importance that it has) and now it's lost.
While I am happy with the continued development of Edius and have already seen some great new improvements in it's functionality (and I DO appreciate it... thanks GV!) ... I continue to be amazed at things that don't get improved especially in the area of customization and useability.
Like who decided that a more garrish set of colors for the clips would look good? Why can't I set a custom color for clip colors?
Why can't I choose the hightlight color that is used around the UI. Someone chose a blue color for a highlight. That's nice but I already use blue in other areas such as clip colors and would not have chosen blue so it would be nice if I could change the highlight color to some other shade.
Why is it that the tab sizes of the sequences on the timeline are the size of the head of a pin? I use the Edius timeline spread across 2 desktops and yet the tab sizes are still microscopic and I can't read the title of my sequence because it's cropped off. You can't tell me that there's not a simple line of code that is saying "make the tab widths X pixels wide". Simply edit this line to increase the number of pixels and boom... wider tabs. You want to really do it right? Rewrite the code so that the tab sizes adjust themselves to fit the name of the sequence. Sure, I can use the tooltip to read the name of the sequence... but it forces a particular workflow upon me rather than just giving me adequately sized tabs in the first place.
Customization is good... and I want more of it.
Thanks again (GV!)
Sincerely,
Mike Truly

I checked it out... thanks! I didn't mean the Export was 'actually' lost... merely that as designed, it could have been more prominent with different color choices (as in the old release).
And I DON'T want to know what a 'Rector Scope' is!! ;)
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Mike Truly

I do happen to agree with you. I'm not a professional so I can't comment on the net value of the interface change, but as a hobbyist having understandable aesthetically pleasing icons is a big help. I find the new interface just terrible, but then again I don’t do this for a living and I have no clue about what the industry considers standard. Edius as a product should be "standard" in its appearance and use (I suppose). Someone said that most professionals use the keyboard, I don’t have the memory any more (getting too old) to remember weird keystroke combinations and icons just make it a lot easier (for me anyway). To my unprofessional eyes, the interface is very important and I do care about the choice of icons – to me, the old ones were easier to figure out, easier to find and looked better. It would have been nice if Canopus put in an option to retain the older interface.
Another thing I don't like about it is that I can't seem to find the button option to add Still Capture to the bin (used to look like a camera), which I use all the time. Maybe they changed it to some weird pictogram that I haven’t figured out yet. It’s a pain to go through the export menu each time.

The clear answer to all these UI desires is total customizability by the user. Unfortunately, this option has to be planned for by the developers at a very early stage of the product and I doubt that it's an easy thing to do at this point.
But this total ability to customize the UI is what would let all users work with the UI they desire. And I have a number of apps where the developers provided this option and it's great to be able to tailor the UI to your liking.
That having been said... what I am talking about in this instance is that some of the color choices on 4.5 for certain items make looking at that item really hard. The 100% saturated clip colors with reversed white text are a bit hard on the eyes and the high contrast of certain items (my player window has a black background and the overlay timecode is white... this is literally glowing) is also hard on the eyes for sustained periods.
But at this point... there are some stability issues with 4.5 that are more pressing.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Mike Truly
