  • 4.5 Text Color on Clips?

I have just loaded up the new version and while the new UI will take a while to get used to... one thing I notice right off the bat is that the clip colors look a bit garrish and very different from 4.24. And I can't read some of the text when using certain colors.

For example, I always use dark blue for my video clip colors. Problem is, the dark blue of before was sort of desaturated a bit. Now... It's like 100% saturated and because of this it's kind of glowing and hard to look at.

But regardless of the saturation level, the black clip text over the dark blue is impossible to read.

Any way for the user to change the clip text colors? Or the color choices for clips themselves?

I have changed my UI window color to a darker color gray but the UI text in other areas remains very stark white.

While I'm encouraged about the new version UI and some aspects seem better than before... some areas seem restricted to a new selection of colors which is not as nice as before.

    Thanks!
    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

How on earth are you able to get those results?
Everything is ok here. My text are white or black depending on the color I choose for the clips.
Maybe you can provide us with your recipe for disaster? :)

        SR,

Wow... I'm not sure. I merely installed the update and then loaded a previous 4.24 project I was working on.

I don't understand how it can be so different.

        Thanks!
        Sincerely,

That is why I was shocked because it looks good on all the machines.

          Strange????

Mike have you messed with the Windows color scheme? Go to Display Properties > Themes, and choose "Windows Classic" and press ok (Just to test)

              Stormdave,

I'll test that tommorrow (my edit system is shutdown and I'm almost shutdown) but Windows Classic is what I use on all my systems. The edit system is XP32 SP2 and I really never mess with the core OS so I'm not sure why it looks so different. Even the font looks different.

I noticed when I had the bin set to list mode that the little color slot box next to each clip said 'Unknown'. For example next to the dark blue color.

Something is wacked compared to what others seem to get.

              Thanks

EDIUS will follow the Windows Appearance settings, so there are certain aspects that can change if you're not using default Appearance settings.

Mike - perhaps the unknown colour is an old setting - you may just need to re-colour the clips - a pain I know, but worth a try.. I am assuming the interface color pallete changed with the new interface and customisable background..

OK... I went to Display properties to check. I always use Windows Classic on all my machines and it said Windows Classic (modified). It always says this when you change something and the only thing I ever change is the desktop color and the screen saver to blank.

I have set it back to Windows Classic (which changes the desktop color) and screen saver and tried again. Here's what I get.

                    Thanks!

                      Pete,

Thanks for the ideas. I thought I had previously tried going to clip color of the clips on the timeline and re-selecting the clip color (why is there no 'Clip Color' listed on the right click menu and you now have to drill down to Properties to get Clip Color? wasn't it there before) but the color pallette there appears the same as on the timeline clips.

However... when I did re-color the clip and chose the same color... the clip text did reverse itself out to white as desired. So things are getting a bit better.

                      Thanks!

                        SR,

What is the font that is being used on your system? The Windows Classic for me sets it to Tahoma under the appearances tab.

Are you running your display card to anti-alias the interface?

                        Thanks!

Unfortunately... I have just noticed a crash issue.

I have loaded the project that I have been working on (and all other aspects seem OK so far) and I was going to each bin folder to re-color all the clips.

When I go to the 'Titles' folder (which has a lot of titles in it) Edius 4.51 crashes... every time. Not sure exactly how many are in there but I would guess about 50. These are all Quick Titler titles, by the way.

                          Thanks!
                          Sincerely,

to set clip color to default, go to clip properties and select default at the bottom of the File Info Tab

                              Anton,

Thanks for the ideas but I'm not sure what you mean. Why would I want them to be default (which appears to be white according to the swatch).

When opening a previous 4.24 project, the colors are what they are and some were identified as 'unknown' in the bin. When I opened the clip color dialog... the ones I opened (the dark blue clips) all said 'default'. When I then chose the dark blue color instead to reassign the color, the color stays the same but the text finally reverses out to white as it should.

So this is the answer for getting the reversed text part... re-assign the colors again.

What's weird is... once I found (or was shown) this solution I went to do this on all the clips. Some of the clips already knew there proper colors even though I hadn't reset them yet (such as the 'Light Blue' clips).

                              Thanks!
                              Sincerely,
