  • Clip Restoration won't work: Why is Capture grayed out?

In Edius Pro 4.24 I'm trying to restore / recapture several AVIs that I deleted by accident. When I access the Restore Offline Clip dialogue, the only choice that works is Open The Clip Restoration Dialogue. Capture options are greyed out. When I open the Clip Restoration Dialogue, Start Batch Capture is greyed out and the only Restoration Methods available for each clip ar relinking a file or relinking a folder.
Why can't I capture? Is it a setting? I can successfully capture and batch capture from the capture dialogues but not from Clip Restoration. What should I check?
    Thanks!

I haven't used this function in a while, but I thought that you needed to have the DV deck on, cued and ready (ie. the presence of a connected device to the FireWire port determined whether the options are grey or not).

So, is the deck connected and ready on the FireWire port?

yes, the deck is running and confirmed communicating with Edius through firewire and the regular capture function.

Does the deck match the project setting in use? What project setting is it by the way?

The project is DV59.94i 4:3,48kHz. The deck is the same camera I originally used to capture the footage before (Sony PD170) and it captures perfectly from the Edius Capture dialogue. The Output Device is correctly set to Generic OHCI SD NTSC (It's an AceDVIO card).
Thanks for helping me with this.

Hi Cory - still looking into this one - it's been so long since I used the feature, that I am embarrased to say that I have had to consult the oracles. :)

Found the problem - you need to have a Reel number assigned to a clip, either before it went offline (say, at the initial capture time) or when it's offline before restoration.

Entering a Reel number is simply a matter of opening up the clip properties for the missing clip and entering in a reel number - this can be any alphanumeric value of your choice.

To add to this files captured in 4.51 get an reel number automatically if you don't type in a name.

Bless you Kenneally and the Oracles, too!
                  The Reel Number fixed it.
Batch capture on Clip Restoration Dialogue is now active.
                  Thanks and be well.
