  • DVD file size discrepancy

I am attempting to author DVDs in Corel Movie Factory 7. I have created an MPEG file using the exporter in Edius 5 --its a 2 hour DVD and my bit rate was set to 4mbs. Windows shows the created file at about 3.6gig. When I tried to use this file in Corel, it showed that the file was actually over 6gig and wouldnt fit on a disc. At first I thought this was a bug with Corel. I then downloaded a trial for Sony DVD Architect 5.0 and again, using the same file, this time Sony showed it as 7 gig.(Before doing any authroing or anything, just simply loading up the file in the program) Why would a 3.6gig file created in Edius show differently? Is windows explorer reading it wrong? or is there some incompatibility here? I am really scratching my head on this one
    Thanks for the input.

when you made the file in Edius, did you choose ac3 audio or uncompressed?

did you export elementary stream or program stream?

can I see a screenshot of windows explorer file properties of your 3.6GB file

Do you have "Do NOT Convert Compliant File" ticked in DVD MovieFactory
And what are your settings for DVD in DVD MovieFactory
I am only guessing but it may be estimating the size of the file after it has been converted?

I had used the default setting which is "program stream" and audio is set to AC3. To answer your question Barry, Movie Factory was set to not convert.
What I found after playing around is that when I changed the Maximum BPS in Edius in the exporter it seemed to have cured the problem. The maximum bps was at 1000000 I lowered it to 6000000...This did not change the file size. It still read as 3.6 gib BUT when loaded into Movie Factory, now the file was read as lower after that max bps was lowered. Does that make sense?
Strange anomoly.. but it seemed to fix it!

1000000 is against DVD spec and as a result, your authoring tool decided to encode
