  • Edius and DirectDraw

I think I like the move to DirectDraw, but what's the underlying reason?

Better compatibility? lower resource usage? GPU video rendering?

On my PC monitor the footage looks progressive now, NX still looks terrific.

Are there better results with Direct3D9 or DirectDraw Overlay?

It solves a number of compatibility issues found with the older system, improves the quality, and provides a means of ensuring that the overlay survives when mirroring, recording or capturing the VGA display.

It's win/win for OHCI and DVX/NX/SP/RX-E1 users! Sorry that it couldn't also be ported to DVStorm and DVRaptor RT2, but the hardware is just simply too old, alas.

I use 'Direct3D9' as my Video Display Type, and set the Update Period to 'Field'

This gives me perfect, interlaced reproduction of video and looks amazing.

Is overlay better on OHCI or NX based systems?

Do you work in OHCI or hardware mode?

I work almost exclusively in OHCI - lowest common denominator.

I don't think there's any visual difference in using OHCI over NX as far as overlay goes - I haven't seen evidence of tearing in quite some time.

Hi, I have an DV Raptor RT2 card and the system will not allow me to change the Video Display Type to anything different than DirectDraw Overlay.

I can´t understand this since you are saying that DirectDraw Overlay is not supported with this card.

I haven´t been able to get any of my videos displayed on the preview window, it may be related to this point that we are discussing.

Hope you can shed some light on this.

          Thanks.

I used Direct3D/Field on the NX and it looks oh so smooth! No banding or anything. A tiny quirk is when during playback you shift the tabs to move the timeline around when the audio waveforms are showing...the overlay seems to lag a bit.

What KH is saying that the new overlay mode Direct3d9 does not work with the Storm and Raptor.
That is why you can not change it.
Storm and Raptor can ONLY use Direct DRAW and not DIRECT3d9
