DVD playback problems

Although I don't burn directly from within Edius to dvd I have delivered to clients with any imaginable brand of player and the main playback problems come down to 2 reasons based on my experience:
The dvd player can't play a dvd+ or a dvd-, f.i. I have a very cheap dvd player that plays my dvd+r's without a problem but it has quite some problems with -r which sometimes don't even start. I usually deliver +r and if a client has a playbackproblem I burn a -r which usually solves the problem.
Second issue is that the bitrate you used can be too high, I one time had a client with a german brand player, a medion, that stopped playback after 10 seconds, I tried everything from + to -r and different brands, nothing helped.
Then I retranscoded the dvd to 6500kbs max bitrate instead of 8000kbs and then it played fine.
Burning your disks too fast can be an issue as well, I never burn faster then 8 speed.Leave a comment:

DVD playback problems
Anyone else having problems with clients being able to play Edius 5.5 created DVDs on their players and laptops?
Have occasionally had client say the DVD freezes, stutters, or just pixelates and fails. Can't figure it out. They all play well here.
I usually just burn it from the time line. Is there a better way that is more compatible with a wider number of DVD players and laptops?
