  • Help with mp4 Output Settings/Options

    Hello,

I need my internet video files to be in the mp4 file format.

I shoot in 720p60 and would like to output files for web viewing at 720x405 and 900x506. Basically two smaller video windows but keeping the 16x9 ratio.

When I look around in the export module I see h.264 listed. When I try to keep my output in square pixels it says unsupported format.

Is mp4 for internt file use even meant to be an option with Edius 5?

If not, has this been added to Edius 6?

With all of the Flash assault lately, the straight mp4 file type seems like the best way to output files... That is if we can in Edius.

    Thanks for your help.

Bassman I think you can achieve those custom frame sizes in mp4 via the QuickTime exporter use the cropping settings if needed.

Here is a link to a tutorial by JShaw and whilst not exactly what you want it may provide insite into manipulating the QT exporter to get what you want.

Maybe Edius 6 custom projects will allow direct export.

    Regards HTH

    Dave.

Thanks Dave. I had a look but I think that method will result in a .mov file.

My web design program needs an mp4 extension. Which is possible by changing the file type right above quicktime but then a different settings dialogue box appears for mp4. This dialogue box is not working well for this.

I have a call in for tech support so I will see if I get anywhere tomorrow.

Thank you. Yes, the exporter supports .mp4 file types but the only 16:9 choices in the separate dialogue are your project settings. Everything else seems to be 4:3 "old" internet sizes. Plus the bitrate defaults to 64kb.?.

If there is a different dialogue please let me know.

            Update:

Tech support called me and gave me a way to accomplish this.

Inside of the Quicktime Exporter, click on "Enable conversion, a list of choices appears. Choose MPEG-4 640x480. Hit Export. Then go into the "settings" dialogue and change to your desired frame size, bit rate etc...

This makes an .mp4 video using the H.264 codec perfect for internet use.

Hope this helps if anybody else needs this file type.

                  YES
At the bottom of the export file window where you choose the export format is a series of button, Save Preset, Import Preset and delete Preset
The last used presets will be shown in Recently Used
Select the preset from the list and Save the preset
Then select My Presets and import

Create 2 seperate export settings as required, save them with unique name, on next project completion choose batch export and load the 2 saved export presets, drink coffee, done :)
