On the other hand our local branch of the BBC is using EDIUS for all their same day edits...

There's a recent posting on the FCP cow community that the BBC have just installed 2000 seats of Premiere Pro!

The big plus would be in the broadcast market. One of the reasons I have heard some people at the BBC favouring Adobe or Avid over FCP is that they work on both platforms and they don't want to be tied to programs that only work on one type of machine. It is more limiting to be stuck to using just Macs than just PCs however.

I have used EDIUS on a MAC with bootcamp happily, even used NX and SPARK hardware on a Mac Pro via bootcamp. Parallels is not recommended although I have never personally tried that.

Being an FCP user as well, the proapps and Desktops (Macpros) seem to get little attention and support now from Apple. All their interested in is the money making iJunk presently.

I honestly can't see enough interest in the Mac community to justify the rewrite.

But once it is ported over, what's to stop
Big Steve from buying it and shutting it
down for PC or even both. Much like several other
PC programs that have gone that route.
Especially, if Mac Edius is outselling
    FCP.
A scenario that could be reality!

My answer there was a little more like 'never.'
I do not disagree. I would suspect that at such time as the 300 lb brains running GV believe that there is a viable market for a native Mac version they will seriously consider porting it over. Viable market means enough NEW sales of a Mac version to cover the cost of the port and continuing maintenance.

But would take a lot of individual additional sales to make that worth while. Very few other software products at similar price points do it today (except perhaps for those that were native Mac at or close to the their outset, or from the shareware or GNU license model community).

I think you WEVA answer is closer to reality Jerry. I think he will just need to get more HD space and Boot Camp

I have converted several Final Cut Pro/Mac users to Edius and Win7

They can't believe how fast everything happens now

I hate to sound this way, but, I hope it stays PC only.
Many reasons, but the main reason is the splitting of the workforce. It is tight enough to get things added in a timely manner. Having to have a team to code for MAC will take away needed engineers and programmers that could be added to add new features to the PC version.
While showing Edius 6 at WEVA, I had that same question asked of me several times. My answer there was a little more like 'never.' Then I explained the workforce concept.
there was no doubt that they were all impressed with the speed of Edius.

Bootcamp with windows is the best option.
There are users on the forum who run EDIUS on a mac but with windows. :)
