    Open a command prompt
    Start>Run>CMD

Or Windows-R (same as Start>Run) then type in CMD

Then run the CHKDSK on the drive

What kind of HDD is that? SATA, or SCSI? If you know the manufacturer of the HDD, you can download specialised repair programs from the manufacturer's website and try. NO promise - but, it will give you the best option available.

        HDD - SCSI

When I type in CMD I get:

type of files NTFS volume label is new volume

chkdsk is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)
        0 percent completed

        Am I at format stage?

If you are using SCSI, please abort CHKDSK first ... boot up your SCSI BIOS (if you are using Adpatec, it will be CTRL-A during bootup time) and navigate to the menu which allows you to check the disk. Make sure you point to the right SCSI channel and id - that will get you the failing drive. Run the program and see if it complains.
