  • Viewing overlay video in Camtasia

I am working on a video tutorial and using Edius in the tutorial. I have a copy of Camtasia to capture the screen portions of the video but can't get the video in the Edius Preview/Ouput monitor to display. It just shows black. Camtasia's support online says to disable graphics hardware acceleration and I have done that and still get no display in the Camtasia video file. I have tried this on my laptop and my main desktop editing system.

Any other suggestions of what to try. I'm sure it has something to do with how Edius is playing with the video overlay.

In case it helps I am on Edius version 4.?? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9400 Core2 duo with an ATI graphics card in it. My desktop is an AMD X2 4800 with an nVidia 6???? series card in it.

    Thanks for any help.
Main System. MSI G33m Motherboard, Intel Q6600 CPU, 2GB Ram, GeForce 9500GT, 7200rpm System drive. WinXP. Lots of external eSATA drives.

Laptop. Sony Vaio. CPU- i7-Gen 3, 8gb RAM, 1tbb 5400rpm hard drive, AMD GPU

I don't recall ever having success with getting the overlay to show up as anything other than black with Camtasia.

That said, I have a feeling that v4.5's new method of producing overlay may help you capture with Camtasia. Try it next week when it is released!

I would try Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshooting and reduce the level of hardware acceleration. In fact, I would try turning it off completely to start, and then try running Edius and Camtasia to see if that solves the problem.

If I remember correctly, you will have no luck with Camtasia until 4.5 comes out. 4.5 will fix your problem. Hopefully Mike will weigh in here as he has used them together.

Given he's actually in the process of making new tutorial videos for the training site, and I haven't heard him screaming, it must be working out ok for him. :)

I was with him when he started using it, so I know it does work. :-)
