NEw Ati cards (X2600) and Xplode Pro in Edius

Has anybody tried these new DX10 Graphic Cards? Since i was using the Older Xplode Pro within edius is there a possibility to work realtime as with the older X1600?

I made a post about this last week. Someone posted that a newer driver would be easy to produce but Xplode Pro is disscontinued so the folks at GV will not be writing new drivers for the newer cards. It is a shame if the driver is something that could be written in a few days.

If you are not in need of a new video card do not purchase the card for Xplode Pro alone. That program will be going bye bye before we can get into Vista and you to be able to utilize the DirectX 10 features.
So, consider your purchase wisely, unless you have spare cash to toss about.

Let me disagree with you... not completely, just a little.
Some of the guys who build Edius- based computers are using ATI X850 cards as the most stable for Xolode/pro. You know, Oldiest, but goldiest...
You DO NOT NEED any better card for Xplode only. Of couse, if you go for Boris RED/FX, Vitascene etc- this card will work too, but it will be not the fastest one. (All this is about Edius 3.x-4.x, but not 4.5.
Now about Vista. I have bad feeling about serious work with Vista. On the other side, Microsoft will support XP up to year 2012. So if somebody want to stay with XP, you have a lot of time ahead and you may get any videocard you want. Vista is nice looking, but it's time is not come yet. We have to give all computer power for editing and compositing, not spending it for fancy interface with transparency and shadows.

My recommendation would be to purchase a cheapo ATI card (X800??) from somewhere (Ebay etc) and when the time comes, and if you need DX10 support and higher end cards, then go for it, but like Jerry said, Xplode Pro might be gone by v5 etc. Nobody knows.

I think you need to take a step and be the first to try the X2600 and see if it works with Xplode (I won't be surprised if it doesn't). If it doesn't you can send it back and get a X1950.

Do you plan to play Blu-Ray discs? Or play new DX10 games? If not, I don't think a DX10 card is really a requirement at this stage.

Unless you need the new card, or you are using 24 to 30 inch monitors, or you are running Vista, I would still stick to the X800. It has shown that it will
run Rt. Heck, my rex system is still running an Ati 9800 Pro on a P4 3.4.
The rt in Xplode, on that systems, blows away my Core 2 Extreme 2.93(clocked to 3.3) with either a Quadro FX 1500 or an ATI 1950x. Even in HD.
However, that is the only program that it is faster.
That is why I stated the Xplode would be gone before we went to Vista.
I have been looking at the 8800 series for a new machine I am currently building, not for primary use with Edius.

I just bought the PNY quadro fx1500 I saw you are using one as well. I got it because I do alot of 3-D animation in conjunction with Edius video editing, so it seemed like a good option. I haven't taken it out of the box yet, so before I install it I thought to ask your input as I may be better served getting the ATI 1950pro instead. I currently have a ati 800xl it works well, but I know one of these other cards is going to give me greater performance.

I have the X1900 on my Mac Pro (Although the BIOS is a bit different) but Xplode Pro is RT, so....

Every NEW ATI card up to X2900 comes with 128 bit memory on them, which makes them not more then children toys. Ati cards X800-X850 are 256 bit memory cards as well as X1800- 1950 series. Card X2900 is 512bit card and this will be excellent choice, but I never tested it with Edius/Xplode.
So X800XL and X850 PE- (PCI-E both) very good old cards high recommended for Xplode use
I have X1950 Pro 256bit 512Mb Sapphire card- perfect performance, It gave me some small problems with some 3D transitions on Edius ver 4.0-4.26, but starting from Edius 4.5 I have no problems at all.
