maybe the clip is fully extended (showing gray triangle)

alternatively, you can allow adding transitions to fully extended clips by changing the very first option in application settings

if the clip edge is showing a gray triangle, the clip is fully extended and can't be stretched longer

so trim some off the end or start, then you can add transition

I already explained, untick the very first option in application settings, then you don't need to trim

or use AB style editing like I do
