  • Fades getting messed up

When I use the timeline buttons to fade out the end of a clip but then later have a need to edit an earlier part of the timeline, the video part of the fade out usually gets messed up and I have to reset it with the rubber band.

Generally all I am doing is to shorten or lengthen a few clips to the left, though sometimes I might transpose positions of two of them however I don't see how this affects the fade out clip which has not been touched.

BTW this is using just a single VA track.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

the opacity fades do not move with clip trims and possibly never will

if you use the dissolve on keyer track as fade in/out, it will never get messed up when trimming

plus, seeing the dissolve on keyer track is a great visual indication that the fade is in place

    do I make sense?

from a other thread about "Fade In" ...http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/fo...ad.php?t=18112
please, look at the linked threads in the "Quote"

for the one or other job, you can play with the "Fade In" / "Fade Out" funktion
      available over button or shotcuts
this button or shotcuts set automatically the with yellow-arrows marked rubberband points
on the position from the CTI

If you play the fade in/out, and the duration it is not nice for you, or your client.
(added today: or you shorten or lengthen clips )

It is not a "effect" ==> therefore you can not delete him => therfore gives not a "traditional duration windows"
But each new set fade in/out on new CTI position, overwrite automatically the old "Fade In" (Out)

there are more thrads as the 3 above
      search with keyword: fade in
inside from the Boolean operators " ...like: "keyword" ....ergo "fade in"

Thanks both, I like your idea Anton but what about the audio part of the fade?

But that's all the button does! Heh! I am back to square one again.

Welll not really since at least the video part of the fade can no longer be upset, hmm... so it's a half solved problem? <grin>

Hans, I know how to use the video and audio fade buttons and I already have keyboard shortcuts I made for them a long time ago, this is not the problem, thanks for your efforts all the same, no.. the problem is that the fades I made with them are messed up when I shorten or lengthen any clips earlier in the timeline.

Anton, trying out your suggestion, I had a problem and could not apply the dissolve to mixer part of any clip that a fade out had previously been applied to and removed.

Resetting it's rubber bands or using 'Initialize all' was not enough. This had me confused until I clicked 'Delete parts > Mixer > Transparency' when the mixer part then accepted the dissolve. This done I added a rubber band audio fade to match the duration of the video dissolve and hey.. yes it works! Audio fade is no longer affected altering length of earlier clips, somehow seems the audio fade is now tied to video dissolve.

I have since noted that if dissolves are placed between clips to the left of the one that needs the fade out dissolve the mixer tracks for these clips all becomes common/contiguous so it seems not possible to add a dissolve to the end of that mixer track if there are any existing opacity adjustments on it.

However I think I can work around that.

you can clear keyer opacity by clicking the keyer track and pressing delete

what I like about keyer dissolves at clip edges is the fact that they move with any trim and they are a great visual indicator

maybe we can request in a future version that the opacity fades show an indication on the clip and that the fade ripples with the trim
