  • Oddity capturing from DVD

I have a DVD of some old 8mm film footage. I tried using Edius Disc Capture and it recognises a number of files and pulls them in OK.

When played they all seem a bit short and what I noticed is that if I play a clip, it only plays for about 30 seconds or so to the end of the slider bar. If I then use the slider bar to scrub through the same footage I see extra stuff, the missing bits, and can even stop half way through and play some of it, although it seems to strobe through a sequence of short bursts from the missing material.

Any idea what may be going on here?

have a look at the mpeg importer settings under plugin settings, if use PTS is seleted, deselect and capture again, if it is not selected, select it and capture again

also, make sure disk capture settings look like this

Great, thanks Anton, I have tweaked those and will give it another try later. FYI "Don't use PTS" was unticked.

in my case it is also unticked

but sometimes, depending on DVD quality, you may need to tick it

but first check the other settings as well

Great, that did the trick thanks, looks like PTS was the issue.

I've always noticed that those settings seem to help, and I've always checked the "Segment Encode" as well. Any idea what this does (the manual isn't exactly clear) and is it harming or helping. I think it is supposed to save time when using the "Re-Constuct" option if I'm not mistaken.

Can you confirm and/or clarify this? Thanks! (I'll probably just do some analog captures for this next project anyway though, since they want 2 second clips here and there from about 10 different DVD's, lol.)
