Is there any news about compatibility between Edius 5.5 and the new Canon XF300 and XF350 video cameras? I understand that Grass Valley will supply a plugin - is that correct and when will it be available?

It appears to be 50 mb/s mpeg-2.

Edius should just edit it and maintain the 4:2:2 color.
Have you tested with any native files?Rusty Rogers | Films

We haven't actually seen the camera in Australia yet, but I am considering buying it.
There seems to be confusion in the various reviews and forums as to whether the plugin comes with the camera or Grass Valley supplies one. Canon web site says:
Compatible with industry standard formats
Utilises MXF file format
Plug-ins for Apple/Avid/Adobe*/Grass Valley*
for importing into NLE software
Supports popular MPEG-2 4:2:2 workflows
Includes Canon XF Utilities (Windows and Mac
OS)
* To be supported by NLE software[/COLOR]

There are some native files on the web. I tried 2 of them and EDIUS 5.51 reads them fine.
Don't have the links with on my notebook but a google search might turn them up. :)Steve

Try this link http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-xf...sony-ex1r.html
They really should not be a problem since they are mxf. I am downloading one now.

We saw them at NAB this year. I used to have the XH-A1 and I think Pat still has his. I was really surprised that they took all of the moving parts out and doubled the price. I was very interested in the camera until that point. I do like the codec, however; I prefer the avc-intra codec and the Panasonic AG-HPX370. This is a 10bit 4:2:2 recording camera. I'm sure it can be had for under $10,000 ($9200us).
Both formats work native in Edius 5.5. (I am not advertising for Panasonic either).
The difference between the XF-300 and the HPX370 is about $3,000 us. That margin narrows between the XF-305.
Take a look.Last edited by Jerry; 07-18-2010, 01:04 PM.Jerry

I agree on the quality. It's the price tag
for a camera that doesn't have
interchangeable lenses that is my
issue. I was all set to get one until
I saw that price tag. I prefer the
mpeg 50 format over avchd. But still
would rather have the 10bit avc-intra
recording format if I had the choice.
Sony has a new handy cam coming
that has interchaneable lenses for around
$2,000. It also has a larger CMOS chip
much like the Dslr chips.
It has depth of field that the Canon can't
get as well.
There are a lot of options out there now.Jerry

Hi Tish. Nice to see you here. I met you at one of the Burbank GV/Edius meetings. You guys had one of your trucks there.
I suppose you could put them all into one folder and then do an open folder import into the Bin. I don't know that that would be much faster as you would still have to expand each file sub folder once it was there. Unfortunelty I don't ahve one to look at and see exctly how it is. I will see what else I can find.

XF 300 Workflow with Edius 6?
Anyone out there that can report on how the Canon XF300 is playing with Edius 6.0? I am thinking of getting one and am curious about what I will be up against when it comes time to Edit. At NAB last year they were saying that Edius would be optimized for working with these files, but I haven't seen any talk about their experience with this camera in Edius. On the other forums it seems that all other owners of this camera are using FCP or APP.ASUS ROG Strix Z490- E, i9 10900 @ 2.8G, 32GRam, Windows 10, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
