  • Is there a file limit in the bin window?

Since these 61 tapes I'm capturing are dividing into multiple files, I'm going to end up with over a thousand files in the bin before I even start editing! Is there a limit?

    Thanks

I'm sure you won't have a problem. I've had projects where total clips (photos, music, alpha files etc) and dv clips were over a thousand...

If it's something like 5,000 clips, expect Edius to take a while on project loads.

      Thanks Dave.

Right now it's about 400 files and it's taking Edius about 2.5 minutes to load the project. It was starting to make me a little nervous...

        Welcome Brad :)

Yeah, imagine if you had 1,000+ files, Edius would take much longer. What it does during loading is search for every file, so if you have an HD activity light, that's the only way to know what Edius is doing because it does not have a percentage/bar indicator during loading....

But 2.5 minutes is pretty long for 400 clips? Do these include photos as well? Can you post your specs and what drives you're using?

No photos, just .m2t clips. This is on my ASUS laptop, Core 2 duo 7500, 2 gigs of RAM, internal 7200rpm SATA drive. I'm capturing to a 1TB Western Digital external raid on USB 2.0. I'm wondering if the USB is the bottleneck when it's loading? When it's through capturing I'll try it with the drive hooked up Firewire 400.

          Thanks

If you have FireWire400, use that instead. USB2 eats CPU power, and on paper it "looks" faster but it's not faster than FW400.

Most of my projects are loaded through a gigabit network or internal drives, so they're really fast.

In the future you might want to take a look at an eSATA solution, which is not that expensive. FW800 is a much more expensive solution than eSATA and it's not even as fast.

Definitely going to switch to the firewire when capturing is done. I was supposed to be capturing via FW800 but my Belkin FW800 express card is not wanting to work...
