  • ripple delete

If you switch from Premiere like I just did you notice that it's very hard finding the corresponding shortcut key's (or names in the keyboard lay-out) where you want to assign a key to.

I'm editing a project now an it's driving me nuts that I can't seem to find the right keys for some basic actions.

    For instance:
I want to ripple delete a selected clip but I want everything on the right of that clip to move to the left to close the gap. Whatever I try the ripple delete is only applied to the selected track but all other audio and video clips on other v and a tracks don't move.

In premiere you had a track select tool where you could select all clips on one track on the right of your cursor or if you pressed alt it would select all v and a tracks on the right of the cursor. Does edius have a similar action to do this?

I found the shortcut key to cut a selected clip where the CTI is positioned but not the one to cut everything on the CTI cursor?

let me see... to delete on clip or a group of selected clips and fill the resulting hole with the adyacent clips, just press ALT>DEL... but if you have clips on diffrent tracks that don't move as the same of the track you delete, you must check your project settings and see how the "sync mode" option is checked... maybe Anton or Central Europe could give to you a few graphic guide...

In application setting have sync mode ON and ripple OFF. Alt+DEL will then delete selected clip and move all to the right to fill gap. IF they don't move there is something that stops them moving like a small clip on one of the tracks!!! If there is just a gap, right click gap and select delete gap.
I have a Shuttle ProV2 and have it set up so that all my editors work from the same keys, Edius, Vegas, Premiere, Sound Forge etc. Makes life a lot easier.

Thx for the tips but ripple delete still does not work properly, f.i. I have a video/audio on track 1va and a separate audio track on 1a, there is also a second 2va track with some clips.
Ripple delete moves all from 1va and 1a but 2va does not move. If I select delete gap only all clips from 2va move to the left.

Did you make a cut across all tracks at the cursor, shift+C ? Clips will only close gap if there is enough space to do so. Make your cut points across all tracks, select the clips to remove and ripple delete.
Make sure the application setting are sync ON, ripple OFF and INSERT is select

Thx all for the help so far but when I follow the instructions it just doesn't work, it ripple deletes just one track and not all the rest.

I just decided to use Edius the following months only to combine all my clips from my hvr-dr60 drive and export to a larger clip so premiere can handle it without crashing. Also the dslr footage will be converted only in edius as premiere cs3 doesn't handle mpeg4.
I"m in a too busy period now and Edius has allready set me back and it frustrates me just too much right now with all that workload I have.

I will pick it up again in a few months when things calm down.

You don't have the application settings set up correctly.

On the preview window across the top there is a drop down called settings. Click on Application settings and a window will open for all the application settings. Under default Sync Mode On should be checked and Ripple unchecked, also Insert/Overwrite mode should be Insert. Click OK to set this.

Thx Ron but I do have it set up like that, I also have the "ripple delete" keyboard shortcut mapped to "x" and when I select the clip that needs to be deleted and hit "x" all clips on that track move to the left, except clips that are one track higher don't.

Well Finally.... Even though all settings were in "application" as it should it did not work but above the timeline "sync mode" was unchecked, once I checked that the ripple delete worked as it should, pfffff...

                  I managed to find the track and clip cut functions as well, need only one more to make my life a bit easier;

If I want to select all clips from all tracks on the rightside of my cursor or the cti, how do i do that?

From a cut across all tracks, Shift+Alt, grab any clip to the right and drag. All tracks should then move as needed to the right to create a space. If that is what you wanted?

If you use the shortcut combo of Shift ALT drag, it will move all clips that originate to the right of the cursor

With sync ON, and insert ON if you insert something in the gap that is bigger than the gap it will move the clips to fit.

Thx Ron for the tip, I got another one which I can't find, I want to add a dissolve between 2 audio tracks which works if my audio is on a "a" track but not if it's on a "va" track, in that case video and audio get a dissolve and I only want the audio to contain the dissolve.

Is there a shortcut to handle this?

can you drag and drop an audio crossfade from the audio transition folder?
