      Hi Sergey.

Your English is good, but I do not understand your work flow.

      Thanks.

When I consolidate my project second, third & etc. time Edius copy ALL files into project folder EACH time.....instead of copying only the new files of a project (I've try different options of consolidating). Plus, Edius 6 rename files (Edius 5 don't change the name, so I can easy find any file in any folder if I need it).
        Thanks.
        Sergey.

          Hi Sergey.

If I understand correctly. You are doing a project, then you do a consolidate, then you work more on the consolidated project and maybe add new video. You then do another consolidate of this already consolidated project with maybe new added video.

If this is what you are doing, then media will be re-copied to any new consolidated folder, even from a project that was already consolidated. You have an option to consolidate media or sequence, and depending on what options you choose for trimming and location, your new consolidation may or may not have media.

I hope that I have understood your question correctly, and that this answer helps.

If you read some of the early comments on this thread, it may give you some idea of some of the strange things that Edius does when it consolidates. If you have used other consolidate functions, like on Avid, then you will find that Edius does not work properly with consolidation. The consolidate function is something that does not get better in version 6.

Hope this is of some help.

          Dave.

what is your reason for using Consolidate?

            1. back up the project? (don't use consolidate)
            2. remove unused items to save disk space? (disk space is so cheap, why bother?)

in that case, consolidate makes 0.0000% sense

simply put the project folder on a portable HD and you are done

remember to always place any assets used by a project inside the project folder

whenever I start a new project, I click save

then I open windows explorer and create 3 folders inside the project folder

                1. HD Clips
                2. Stills
                3. Export

                  Thanks Anton.

As for me, this is useless work - to create such folders & to put your materials here....This must be done IMHO by using "consolidate project" (in Edius 5.51 I did it in the same way).

May be it'd be better to use "Transfer to Project Folder" function?

Does anyone use "field editing" function?

                  Sergey.

all I can say to that subject is that if you want to stay away from old age and gray hair, stay away from consolidate

I could never fully perfect it in all the years of using Edius

many file types maybe ignored by consolidate, causing grief after

good luck to the users who fully understand and get it to work correctly, let us know how you mastered it

                      Hi Anton.

About the best workflow you can get from this function, but it is still not a fully working consolidate. Is to, consolidate to new folder but do not trim media. After you have consolidated your project and moved your media without trims, you will then have to copy all none HQ media manualy to new folder then re-link this media as it it will be offline after you rename the original media folder to force it off line and re-direct the ezp to the new consolidate folder. Like I say not very good, but is just about usable if most of your media is HQ, and you need to shrink your media bin of all media not used in timeline/sequences. This method can be of use if you have thousands of clip/takes and your final sequence only uses about 20 to 30 percent of it, but you still can't trim the media you have used to bring the file space down further. Or if you are working in reels in a long form project, then you can make one reel as one sequence as one ezp within it's own folder with media.

                      Sergey.

I understand what you are trying to do, and yes a consolidate would be the right thing, for many reasons. But as you can see if your project does not use mostly HQ media, it is not worth using the function as it is full of bugs. If your media is file based off cameras, such as MOV, AVI, H264, AVC, AVCHD etc. Then this function is totaly useless. Sorry to not give you better news.

                      Cheers.

                      Dave.

I consolidate project in Edius 6, Backup & Cleanup... All my m2p files used on timeline no more exist...
Any options to switch to Edius 4, 5 interface and shortcuts?? Edius 6 is so frustating... Dont change good stuff. One example-If you want to add clip with audio-video in video track (need only video) in Edius 4,5xx just add, in Edius 6 nightmare, add to audio video track, unlink, delete audio, move video to video track, grrrrr....

You can add just the audio or video.

One way is to turn off the blocks the other is to hit the A or V just above the blocks to add just audio or video.

It is not much different actually.

                            THANK YOU!
I think that the working environment should not be so different that someone who is working on versions of Edius 2xx come into a situation that does know how... :)
Why consolidate don't work, why I lost my mpg files???

I remember a time when Adobe released Premiere Pro after 6.5. Then I tried Edius that came with the hardware and thank God was pleased so far. Doing something for years in one way and ho-la suddenly not so. Especially for things that are irrelevant to some new opportunities. .If the years when you press c on your keyboard is selected in the rear part of clip, why it must now be selected in front of? What would improve the program other than to annoy users?

Maybe it is one of those things that the broadcast users of Edius wanted, and so to please them it was done their "prefered" way. Quite a few things were changed in v6 to appease the broadcast Edius users.
