  • Channel mapping??

I am getting back into editing with edius 4. Can someone explain channel mapping. I recently captured a news clip with stereo audio. I wanted to edit the video without affecting the audio. Everytime I split the video and added a dissolve the audio was also affected and out of sync with video. Hope this is clear and thanks for any advice

Because we often use shotgun and/or multi wireless I've really come to appreciate Channel Mapping. Really nice to get better control over each channel.

Thanks to help here I found out the audio/video is "Grouped" not "Linked" when dragged to the timeline. Somewhat different. This requires that audio faders be applied as well as video transitions. Then everything stays in sync. Thankfully, Edius adds red flags if a/v is out of sync.

Now with channel mapping...if I have a stereo audio clip, can L and R be put onto seperate audio tracks???

All tracks in EDIUS are natively stereo.

Hmm... Channel Map is for output.

Track mapping (the little V and A buttons on the track labels) is for determining what "lands" where when it is put into the timeline.

For example, you could map Audio Channel 1 to land on A3, and Audio Channel 2 to land on A5.

Then you would see two audio clips - one on A3 which contains the audio channel 1, and one on A5 which contains audio channel 2.

So the short answer is yes, you can put L and R on separate tracks.

When mono audio is "Mapped" it's automatically given "stereo centered" status. (Not considered left or right, just channel 1, 2, etc.) Pan L/R or do as I do... nothing! Sweet! With a shotgun mic it saves lots of time. I recently did a wedding ceremony w/ 6 audio channels. Nice to have lots of choices.
