  • Rotation on LayOut ?

Ok I've got a quick question. is there anyway to rotate footage by using layout tool ? if not this should be fixed in my opinion.

At present there is not an easy way. Use 3DPIP. I expect Layout to change in the future.

This tool, up to this point, has never had the rotate feature as 3DPiP has it and it would be rather redundant.

I know we are planning to enhance the Layout tool a little and I will pass your thoughts along :)

while it may appear to be a bit redundant, if you use PIP and wanted to transition into the clip with the PIP, you cant do it.

            Why Not?
I use transitions and 3dPIP together daily. What am I missing?

you are talking about basic dissolve transition ? it is okey but you cant use the rest together with 3dpip.

Use different track transition instead of single track transition when doing PIP.

well if you're going down track from clip to clip w/PIP yes you can do it but if the clip w/pip is above, then it is denied

Make a new sequence of the clip with PIP, I program a short cut keyboard for that and it is just a stroke.

you would put the next clip above the 3D PIP clip, then you can come down again

I often just make a cut and move the transitioning bit above the 3D PIP and leave the rest where it is

Yes you can... Place the clip that you want to transition to on a track higher than the PiP and place the transition in the keyer track... works great.

I do not see a reason for layout tool as it is now, I would prefer the "premiere's type" of manipulating (move-resize-2D rotate) in player window, if combined with 3D PIP, then yes, it would be nice to have kinda universal tool to manipulate the video... combined with alpha we could do nice things with video, titles, masks etc... well, just my dreams.

I'm sure there are a lot of us that would disagree. The cropping function and being able to move the cropped window, with no resolution loss is worth the price of admission alone. I use it a lot and I am sure others do as well. It acts as a key frameable masking tool, which to my knowledge, the 3d PIP won't do. 3D function would be great of course, but the layout tool IMO is very usefull as it is now.
