Many thanks to all of you. I am disappointed that the only way forward is to spend £1,000 to do this. This makes the solution way beyond justifiable for an amature hobbiest. My previous posts re Blackmagic Intensity made it clear that Edius will never be allowed to work with this £149 card. It's such a shame that there appears to be no marketeer vision within this product.
Thanks again everyone for confirming what I already feared.

Edius NX is your only choice
    EdiusSP would be another.

EdiusNX outputs HD (1080i) only via the HD component out card. Working with a hardware based HD project setting disables the Y/C output.

Edius NX is your only choice if, while you're working in edius, you want to:
    view your edius timeline,
    on an external HD monitor,
    with correct colors, and
no delay between your work on timeline and its showing up on the external monitor

Can anyone help please? Is it possible to use ADVC110 to output an HQ time line to an external LCD that has an S video input socket - ie use an external Hi Def LCD as a monitor? If this is not possible what is the solution for an external monitor (I would prefer a HD solution if possible - perhaps HDMI - since the LCD is HiDef - to take advantage of the HQ footage.)
    Many thanks
