My guess is they are working hard on the ground moving, earth shattering version 6 :)
Let's hope version 6 is Magnitude 100 earthquake and not a magnitude 1 tremor :-)))).

in my case, the longest save on a very complex project took 1/2 second

if it takes longer than 1 sec, there is something wrong system wise
      Here it's exactly the same.

But, If your project is going to be full of Vitascene effects, it's going to take
      7/8 second or more.....

I have a 38 minute project (SD) that is full of different files, stills (LOTS), audio, and it would take about 4 minutes to open...and about 20 seconds to save. That's probably the longest I had to wait.

Then I have a new project that's all DVCPROHD 1080i/720p60, 1 hour long, 3 hours worth of P2 footage...not too complex, lots of cuts...and it takes 2 minutes to open. 15 seconds to save.

I have a HD project (720p) that about the same complexity as Dave's DVCPROHD - takes about 3 minutes to open (nearly 200 still images, 50 P2 footages - about 3 hours worth). 10 seconds to save - sometimes, it is about 5 seconds.

Do you also have slow performance with P2 as me?

Loading is way slower than Canopus HQ files with the same resolution.

Dragging of hundreds of clips from the bin to the timeline is really slow too.

Nope - my P2 clips and HQ clips are loaded at about the same speed.

It takes about 2 - 5 seconds to drag 200 clips from BIN to TIMELINE for my PC.

Last night before going off to bed, i started another DVD burn from the time line of a 1hrt 23 min project. peeked at it before heading to sleep and it said it needed about 1.5 hours (but the time remaining continued to climb) so i thought I'd leave it on all night to see what happened. This morning it was about 4% completed and telling me it needed 173 hrs (!) (really!) to finish.

So, I have rebooted and will try again later after tweaking some edits.

Something is surely VERY wrong with your system. I managed to convert 1 hour 24 minutes of SD on timeline to M2V and WAV file (to be authored on two DVDs) - (splitting the video on timeline into 2 parts) in about 30 minutes. Using TMPGenc 4 Express (without CUDA).

I burnt one M2V and WAV using Adobe Encore CS4 in 15 minutes. So, the whole process takes me 1 hour from the time I convert the timeline (written out as Canopus HQ) to the time I have 2 DVDs burnt nicely.

yes, it's pretty crazy. I restarted Edius and burnt a DVD from the same timeline in the normal 1hr 45 min in Edius...came out fine, except still no chapters. Yes I have in and out marked..with 10 sequence markers on time line.

Think I'll try on a new timeline with the same sequences and new markers, etc.
I'll have to play with that part of it...maybe start a separate thread.

if you don't get chapters, they maybe turned off in final options menu? check before you start the burn compilation

The HD one I was talking about is about 2.6MB in size.

Don't think the .ezp's file size has anything to do with it.

well, when you save, the only thing that gets processed is the ezp and backup ezp files

I have a project with 10 sequences and 500 video clips and 320 tga stills, save takes less than a second and every 3 min when autosave kicks in, there is no holdup in the editing

I know that projects take long to open if the original izotope are installed, but it opens fast with the updated izotope

I have auto defrag disabled on all drives
projects and assets are all on V drive which is raid 0, consisting of four 1TB drives

Well you must have a magical system because this happens on 2 machines here. They're not slouches either.

I've learned to live with it.
