  • 5.5 Install - Lost Filter/Transition Goodies

Having just done a clean install with a shiny new I7 and Windows 7 everything seems OK except that I have lost all the nice new 3rd party filters and transitions, New Blue, Mercalli and Vitascene. Do I have to do a complete Edius 5.0 - 5.5 reinstall or is there a short cut?

just remember that the bonus disk content is not the latest versions, especially izotope will give you problems from the bonus CD, download the updated version

              Vitascene issue

Hope this is not too off topic, but I am going around and around with the bonus disk install of Vitascene that came with Edius 5. I attempt to install it and the extractor shows all the files extracting, but at that point the installer fails to initialize and the install dialogue freezes. I have been in contact with ProDad, but they have not come up with anything. Edius works fine and I have two other ProDad plugins that work fine. I tried downloading the demo version, but it stops at the same point. Any ideas on what would prevent the installer from continuing? I also did a system repair from the Dell installation disk, but that did not work. I am debating on wiping the system disk and doing a fresh install of Win 7.

this usually happens when the hidden temp folder is full

I empty it daily and I have a shortcut to temp on my desktop

what OS do you use now? XP or already Win7?

I am using Win7. I assume the temp folder is the standard one in Windows and not a "hidden" one. I did empty that one prior to my install attempt. I did encounter a problem when trying to use system restore. In each case the result was "could not restore" ..leads me to feel that I may need to do a complete restore of windows. Of course I'd like to avoid that if possible.

no, the temp folder is not located in the Windows folder, it is hidden by default until you enable show hidden files and folders

btw, turn off system restore on an editing PC and never use it again

win7 has a real good image backup built in, it can create an image of your whole C drive to another internal drive in under 10 min

also, Vitascene on Bonus CD is not suitable for Win7

look here, and look at the bottom for temp folder location

                        disable system restore
disable drive indexing on video drives
                        disable remote admin
power options set so nothing ever sleeps or turns off
                        clear temp folder daily
turn off automatic updates and do them manually

Thanks, Anton, for the info. In fact I do have the correct temp folder shortcut already on the desktop and empty it daily. I believe the upgrade to version 1.0.46 available from ProDad which I downloaded is supposed to correct the compatibility problem with Win7. My problem is still of course that Vitascene simply won't install. ProDad wanted me to use their "Protocol Finder" program and send the result, but it can't find Vitascene of course, but also cannot detect Mercalli and Heroglyph which are successfully installed. I have read that there are issues with Vitascene and AVCHD files which I use, but that should not prevent install of Vitascene.
